Jack was truly larger than life—his generosity knew no bounds. Whether it was through an unexpected surprise, a meaningful gesture, or simply his vibrant presence, Jack had a way of making life richer for those around him. His love for sports, New York City, and his family was undeniable, and his legacy will continue to shine brightly.
I’ll always remember the hours we spent on the tennis court, working on his game. He was always intense, arriving with his game face on, ready to compete and improve. His dedication and passion were undeniable.
My mother, Vallie Stonick, and I send our deepest condolences to Jack’s family and loved ones. May his memory bring comfort, and may his larger-than-life spirit continue to inspire all who knew him.

Just like the obituary says, Uncle Jack was a big, big presence! I’m grateful that he and my dad, Marty, were able to reunite before my dad’s passing and spend time together as brothers—sharing friendship, fellowship, and love.
Your dad, my Uncle Jack, was always incredibly kind to me. I think he truly enjoyed being a mentor, just as much as I loved having him as an uncle. (It’s always a little easier when it’s not your own dad or kid—I think we both benefited from that dynamic. Haha.)
I just want to say thank you for sharing your dad with me. He played an important role in my life during a pivotal and vulnerable time, and I deeply appreciated his guidance, support, and love. I hope all of you find moments of grace, peace, and love even as you mourn his passing.
One story my dad often told always makes me smile. When he was around 14, he went to get his work permit and came home with a document that said “John Kelly.” Confused, he told his mom they must have given him Jack’s permit by mistake. Grandma took a breath and said, “Actually your first name is John and Martin is your middle name, but we always knew we would call you Marty. The permit is correct.” So yeah, whenever I feel like my family is a bit much, I remind myself that my grandparents thought naming two of their kids John was a good idea. It always reassures me that I’m doing okay if that’s the DNA I’m working with.
To all my cousins—those I’ve met and those I have yet to meet—I send you much love and many prayers. We’ll be holding a Mass in Jack’s honor at my parish in Kirkland, Washington. Thank you again for sharing your dad with me.
Much Love,
Michael Kelly(Marty Kelly’s son)
