1967, OLD SAE house on Ocean "the Pit"
Joel and Mills lived in A real room     GOAT Ralph nick name  Murray and Smithie lived in the jungle for the summer     than moved to the Pit a 2 bedroom 1 bath near the college        Every weekend Mills blasted on a reel to reel the tape of Sargent Peppers Beatles album    Shultz did a doobie in the  black lite room and John Suttie slept in a closet  used as a bedroom     Best 3 months of my life     The PIT had a reputation and Starz and  whatever her name was lived next door.  Enough other than Murray was a perfect gentlemen right Smith?     lots  OF LOVE JOEL    later God Father for my boys Bryce and Jeff and I for Alison and Lynsey           He was watching the world series baseball nothing he would have rather done then play  PHI Alpha see you again I hope

I'm sorry to hear about Joel's passing. To me, he was such a gentle giant with a big heart. I will surely miss his smile and our friendly chatter. My sincere condolences to Diane, Lindsey, and the whole family.

My condolences to Diane & the entire Hackett family. Joel was a lifelong friend, born eleven days apart, and we shared many years of school, family & sports together. I will always remember his love for his family, his passion for sports, & his bragging rights for his hole-in-one, & his skill to teach anyone to be a successful salesman. He will be deeply missed. RIP my friend!

For the last 40 or so years J…
For the last 40 or so years Joel, Ken Ammann and I met for lunch or dinner once a week. It was a chance to talk about business or family or politics or upcoming events. Always with a lot of humor. This was a nearly sacred event and to a great extent every thing else revolved around it. It’s hard to believe that Joel won’t be there anymore.
