Jody's obituary
In loving memory of Jody Kay Turner, who passed away on April 19, 2024. When we think of Jody, it's difficult to encompass all that she was. She was a wife, a mother, a daughter, a sister, a mathematician, a life-long Mariner's fan, a brainiac, a friend, a not so crazy cat lady, a writer, an accountant, an expert in taxes, a traveler, a musician, an avid reader, and so much more.
Jody was born to Julie and Jay Turner, on January 4th, 1964, in Vancouver, Washington. An unexpected delivery, as the doctor had told Julie that she would be safe to fly and see her parents without going into labor. How wrong he was! Jody became a big sister in 1968. She adored her brother, Jerry, and desperately tried to teach him how to pronounce his "L"s when they were very young. Together, they ran the other neighborhood children, Jody being the only girl among them!
Jody was a gifted child. She loved music and math. She played French horn in her high school band, and would sing French horn parts in every song she heard. She grew up in a household that valued her natural ability in math. With support from her family and teachers, she was able to pursue her love of numbers by taking college level courses at University of Puget Sound while attending Stadium High School. This inspired her to continue her education at the University of Washington where she received a Bachelor's degree in finance. She liked to tell the story of how she couldn't get a job with a degree in finance and had to go back to get her Bachelor's in Accounting. Ultimately she passed the CPA exam and was the accountant we all knew since then!
Jody is survived by her parents, brother, husband, and two daughters. Jody's family was everything to her - being a mother came naturally to her. Though her children, Jennifer and Jamie, were her life and soul, she had a deep love for her spouse, J.C. They met dancing in 1990 and fell in love with each other. Jody and J.C. were married on May 23, 1992 in Tacoma, WA. Their marriage was a loving, strong partnership - a testament to what spouses are. Nothing but devotion could have inspired such a beautiful union of two people. She worked tirelessly to care for her family. Jody was always the one to organize, care, and plan, traits she shares with Jamie. She had an infectious laugh and ability to make people smile, a trait she shares with Jennifer.
Jody met a lot of people she called friends throughout her life. Many of which are still close family friends and vacationed often with her and her family. This is because, Jody's friends became part of her family easily, after all, who wouldn't want to know her and call her a friend? She was a kind listener, a fierce friend and a caring shoulder to all.
Though Jody is gone, we can find her in our everyday lives. She loved Billy Joel and the Eagles, so when you hear 'Piano Man' or 'Take It Easy', think of her and how she loved singing. She was a huge Mariner's fan. You'd find her listening to games in the car on the radio while driving her kids around town, so do her a favor and cheer them on whenever you can. She loved her cats, so if you have a chance, stop by and give them some love. When you see her daughters, know that there was nothing more Jody loved, than them. They were her pride and joy. See her wisdom guide them through their lives and know she is watching over them. Jody loved her rose bushes. Did you know some of them came from her mother's garden? It's very difficult to transplant rose bushes, but she was dedicated. When Jody put her mind to something, it was going to get done! So when you see roses, think of her and how beautiful her smile was. And do Jody a favor: when you're out in the sun, put some sunscreen on, because she would sunburn even in the shade.
Jody will be missed by all who knew her. We cannot know why she was dealt so many hardships in her life, but we can admire her strength and fight. The ones who love us never really leave us, and Jody had so much love to give.
