Jodi's obituary

It is with hearts full of sadness, gratitude and love that we share the passing of Jodi Lynn Freeman, age 40, of London, Ontario. Jodi died peacefully on June 6, 2025, surrounded by loved ones, after a courageous year-long battle with cancer. Jodi’s life, though far too short, was rich in love, laughter and joy. She brought light and energy to every space she entered, touching countless lives with her kindness, loyalty and uncanny ability to make people feel truly seen and deeply cared for.

Jodi will be forever missed by her husband Jordan Miller and son Bennett, parents Ian and Lori Freeman, sister Jill Caldwell (Jeff) and nephew James, brother Scott Freeman (Katrina) and niece Julia, in-laws Gary and Patti Miller, brother-in-law Jonathan Miller (Gemma) and niece Maisie, and sister-in-law Katelyn Vergilio (Philip), niece Nova and nephew Vincent. She also leaves behind many beloved extended family members and friends who were forever touched by her love. Her circle of family and friends was wide and full of love, and her impact will live on in everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

Born in Mississauga, Ontario, Jodi's vibrant personality shone brightly from a young age – bubbly, outgoing, larger-than-life and unapologetically direct. Her radiant smile could light up a room and her quick wit and infectious humour brought laughter to everyone lucky enough to know her. She kept her family and friends on their toes with her lively spirit and sass.

Jodi graduated from Western University in 2008 with an Honours Bachelor of Health Sciences before completing a Masters of Criminology at Bond University in Australia in 2010. She spent most of her adult life in London, Ontario where she built a fulfilling career at Western University. She most recently served as a Senior Advisor and made a lasting impact through her leadership, winning the Western Award of Excellence twice. This award is Western’s highest honour for staff members and Jodi was the first multiple-time recipient. Her work community was truly an extended family to her and was part of her everyday life in the most genuine way.

In 2019, Jodi married the love of her life, Jordan, and was embraced wholeheartedly by the Miller family. Jordan and Jodi shared a deep, devoted partnership – one rooted in love, laughter and unwavering support. In April 2020 they welcomed their greatest joy, their son Bennett. Jodi's strength, warmth and boundless love for her family were at the heart of who she was. She had a remarkable gift for building community – keeping their social calendar full, nurturing connections and creating a strong, supportive village around their young family. Bennett already carries his mother’s spark and her legacy will live on brightly through him.

In loving memory of Jodi, a Celebration of Life will be held on July 5, 2025 from 1-4pm at Clare Hall (Brescia campus at Western University), 271 Ramsay Road, London Ontario. Family remarks will take place at 2pm. Summer garden party attire is encouraged – light, airy and celebratory. In honour of Jodi’s spirit guests are invited to wear something pink. All who knew and loved Jodi are welcome to join us to share memories and celebrate the love and joy she brought to the world.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to London Health Sciences Foundation for the Verspeeten Family Cancer Centre supporting Colorectal Cancer Research.
