I miss this girl. Looking down at her silent backyard and driveway… no matter who might purchase that home, it will always be the bouncing reggae gardening girl I see across the drive. And the big smiling wave. 👋. I learned a lot from watching her and her council when I was figuring out how to repair my septic or whatever. When I was successful & tell her I amaze myself she’d say “I amaze myself almost every day!” Great outlook always offered.

She walked like she was stepping to a song playing in her head that only she knew the rhythm and flow leaving the rest of us to always wonder how she moved so easily through air that constrained the rest of us. A woman whose presence could change the room’s aura without ever saying a word. An uncommon woman to be certain who touched many souls along the journey, myself being but one. To her family May her memory be a blessing. To her extended circle, May her warm smile stay in your head forever and we ourselves come to stepping in our own rhythms of life.

A close friend of mine Joan Leaver departed this realm last week. To me she was Reggae Joan, but she was also known as Peaches. Tuesday night was our regular time to hangout together, and listen and dance to reggae music. That's how we met, I was walking by and she was playing some Bob Marley on her speakers on a patio in downtown Bastrop Texas. We became immediate friends, and developed a close friendship over the past three years. She knew more about Jamaican reggae than anyone I had met before. One of my favorite memories of her was being at her 70th surprise birthday party. I miss her deeply. I love you Joan❤️
A special shoutout to 602 Brewing Co/ Restaurant for letting us hangout on your patio these last few years.

When I worked with Joan at the USPS she was frequently smiling, had a good sense of humor, and was a great co-worker. Later when she worked at Home Depot she seemed to continue with those characteristics. Good person that will be missed by everyone that knew her.

I met peaches in 1988 when I moved to austin and she was working at post office. She and I traveled around selling spirulina and she even roomed with my mom at a convention in Santa Cruz. After I moved to bastrop we lost touch till Doug died. She purchased the lot next to me and built her home here. She’s been my emergency contact for these last 10 years. This loss is hard to process, but as I continue running into happy memories in photos I realize blessings in connection; no matter the time. 💝
