James's obituary
Dr. James Salmon, MD, 72, of Beaverton, Oregon, passed away on April 13, 2024 after a valiant 8-year battle with cancer.
Jim was born in 1952 to Willard and Rosemary Salmon in Baker, Oregon. While attending middle school, he met the love of his life and his eventual wife, Dianna Barnes. Jim and Dianna started dating while attending Beaverton High School, and both went on to attend Oregon State University. They were married shortly after graduation.
Jim’s passion for helping people led to a career in Psychiatry. While serving his residency in Minnesota, Jim and Dianna had their first son Lucas in 1980. Three years later, they had a second son named Douglas.
The Salmon family then settled down in Edmonds, Washington, where Jim started a private practice. His passion for helping people quickly established him as a much-loved psychiatrist. Above all, Jim loved his family. He served as a coach for several of his sons’ sports teams, and enjoyed the many vacations he took with his family to places such as Whistler and the Grand Canyon.
Jim was also a writer in his spare time, and published the book “The Uncertainty Principle” in 2014 under the pen name James Allyn. He also loved jogging, and completed several marathons.
Jim is survived by his wife Dianna, mother Rosemary, brothers Mark and Philip, sons Luke and Doug, grandchildren Lucy and Bodhi, and daughters-in-law Krystal and Esh.
A memorial celebration is being planned to honor Jim.
