One year later, in honor of Jim, we celebrated the continuation of life with the running salmon at Carkeek Park, Seattle. Piper's Creek feeds into the Puget Sound where the salmon enter. We shared this experience with other nature lovers as well as biology students taking water samples.
For the first time, beaver have moved into and dammed the creek which added an extra level of difficulty to the already challenging salmon spawning journey.

The Sierra Club Rochester ECOS Team grieves the loss of our friend and group member Jim DeSautelle. Jim was very active over the past few years, volunteering with tabling, storm drain stenciling, river clean up and river monitoring projects. He stood out for his friendliness, politeness and a beautiful smile. Jim was soft spoken with an endearing Northern Michigan accent, but also curious and determined, all of which made conversations with him a delight. Even though he joined the team recently, he quickly became part of our ECOS family. He even helped to support another team member during his last days by visiting him often and reading him books. Jim will be dearly missed. The team will honor his memory by continuing the work that brought all of us together. We love you, Jim!

Although I've never had the chance to meet Jim & Felice in person, we participated in a monthy drum circle by phone during the pandemic. The warm, kind & fun energy they brought definitely came through & contributed to the saving grace that space helped create @ such a difficult time. My thoughts & prayers are with your family.

We send our condolences to the DeSautelle family. We enjoyed visiting with Jim during his visits to Iron wood to see his mom . Jim and Mike loved to reminisce about their school years. We saw him at many Thanksgiving and Fourth of July holidays and always enjoyed visiting with him!

Our families shared the same quiet, wooded street. There were not many children in the neighborhood so it was natural that our families would connect. Our children were similar in age so there was plenty of play dates, scouts, school events and bus stop times. Jim's love of nature, bike riding, and walking, especially in a fresh snow, was clear. Jim was soft spoken, gentle, very humorous, and always interested in sharing a good conversation. When our kids grew up, Jim would have to put up with Felice and I chasing rowing dreams in a boat on many different rivers.

My heart is heavy learning of the passing of Jim DeSautelle.
The DeSautelle family and my family met at the Heart of the Hills Swim Club. Our families had both recently joined the pool and our families were mirrored images!
My wife (Ellen) and Nikki watched each others younger child to allow the other mother to volunteer in the Kindergarten class for the older siblings. Later our girls attended the Rochester High homecoming in the same group of friends while the parents proudly took photos.
As Engineer brotheri, Jim and I nerd talked around the pool. When Jim worked at the CTC (Chrysler Technology Center) he stopped by to say hello and recognised an embedded TRW Engineer who I was working with had been a TA (teaching assistant) at Michigan Technological University in one of Jim's classes.
Jim DeSautelle positively touched the lives of all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
