It is with great sadness that the family of Huong Ho announces his sudden passing on Sunday, October 10, 2021. Huong had been battling a disease called coccidioidomycosis while facing additional severe medical conditions and complications for over three years. He spent his last moments with close family at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, CA. 

Huong was born July 4, 1957, in Paris, France, and moved to Vietnam shortly after.

At 17, he emigrated to the United States, leaving Vietnam as a refugee. After finding himself all alone in a completely new country, he decided to join the United States Military for the opportunity to have a good education and, in turn, an excellent job for the future. He would enlist into US Army and eventually end up in the US Air Force serving throughout his early adulthood. He would gain several accolades during this time, such as being the first airman to pass his technical job training with 100% proficiency and being promoted to Staff Sergeant in record time.

After leaving the military, Huong continued his education, getting his BS degree major in Mathematics and Computer Science. He would spend the next 25+ years working as a software engineer and retired at HP in Silicon Valley and 4 years as Industrial Engineer at the Veterans Affairs before getting ill.

Huong was a person of many talents. As an avid learner, he loved to study and read books, randomly sign up for classes for further certifications or some other topic, and spend hours watching videos on topics he was interested in. Huong was also very personable and loved to talk. Throughout the years, he would cultivate lifelong friendships that he maintained until his passing. Huong was the type of person to strike a conversation with anyone and leave a lasting impression. He could have been a teacher in another life because of this passion for learning and love for discussion.

As he grew older, he became more religious. This faith helped him endure the struggles he faced the past few years. He would turn to the Bible's teachings for support and gain new perspectives on life during the tough times.

He was a loving husband and a best friend to his wife Lucy. He was a caring father who always put his children first and supported them through the highs and lows. He was also a kind friend, among many other things.

Tran Berkowitz and Ly Gia Ho predeceased Huong.

He will be remembered by his wife of 34 years, Lucy; children, Harvey, Heather, Harold; grand-daughter Adrianna, daughter in law Franchesca; siblings, Chris, Tuyen, Amrit, Xuan, Thuy, Truc Chi, Ngan; and other numerous family members and friends.

Gia đình chúng tôi vô cùng thương tiếc báo tin sự ra đi đột ngột của anh Hồ Gia Hưởng, chồng, cha, ông, và anh em của chúng tôi, vào ngày 10 Tháng 10 Năm 2021, hưởng thọ 64 tuổi.

Sau hơn 3 năm chữa trị cho căn bịnh nấm hiểm nghèo, Coccidioidomycosis, anh đã ra đi bên cạnh những người thân và những người đã chăm sóc cho anh tại bịnh viện UC Davis, thủ đô Sacramento, tiểu Bang California.

Anh sanh ngày 4 Tháng 7 Năm 1957 tại Pháp và trở về Việt Nam sau khi sanh. Lúc 17 tuổi, anh tị nạn qua Mỹ. Một mình trên sứ khách quê người, anh tình nguyện gia nhập quân đội Mỹ với hoài vọng sẽ được học đại học và tìm được việc làm tốt sau khi giải ngũ.

Sau thời gian huấn luyện, anh được tuyển vào Không Quân Mỹ, United States Air Force. Anh đạt được nhiều thành quả và được tuyên dương nhiều lần. Anh là người đầu tiên đạt số điểm 100% cho Công Việc Đào Tạo Kỹ Thuật. Chỉ trong một thời gian ngắn, anh được bổ lên chức Nhân Viên Trung Sỹ, Staff Sergeant.

Sau khi giải ngũ, anh học đại học và tốt nghiệp Cử Nhân Khoa Học ngành Máy Tính và Toán Học. Anh làm Kỹ Sư Phần Mềm cho Hewlett-Packard 25 năm, và Kỹ Sư Công Nghiệp cho Cơ Quan Cựu Chiến Binh, United States Veterans Affairs, cho 4 năm, đến lúc anh mắc bịnh nấm Coccidioidomycosis.

Anh có nhiều sở thích. Anh thích học, thích đọc sách. Anh học thêm lớp chuyên môn để hiểu rõ những gì anh muốn tìm hiểu, và anh nghiên cứu nhiều trong mạng. Anh dễ thương và thích nói chuyện. Anh là một người bạn tốt và anh giữ gìn tình bạn cho đến khi mất. Anh có khiếu bắt chuyện và để lại một ấn tượng lâu dài. Anh có thể là một nhà giáo trong một đời sống khác vì anh thích học và thích tranh luận.

Càng lớn tuổi, niềm tin anh càng lớn. Niềm tin giúp anh rất nhiều trong đời sống, nhất là trong những lúc bịnh tình khó khăn. Những lời dậy trong kinh thánh nâng đỡ tinh thần anh rất nhiều trong hơn 3 năm qua.

Anh là người chồng tốt và là người bạn đời tốt nhất của Lucy, vợ của anh. Anh là người cha hết lòng với con cái. Những lúc thăng trầm, anh đều có mặt để giúp đỡ các con. Anh còn là người bạn tốt, và một người mà ai cùng có thể trông cậy vào được.

Ba má anh: Hồ Gia Lý và Berkowitz Tran đã qua đời trước anh.

Anh sẽ được tưởng nhớ bởi những người thân yêu— Lucy: người vợ trong 34 năm qua; các con: Harvey, Heather, Harold; cháu, Adrianna; con dâu: Franchesca; anh chị em: Chris, Tuyen, Amrit, Xuan, Thuy, Truc Chi, Ngan; họ hàng, người thân, và bạn bè.

Anh sẽ được thương mãi, nhớ mãi và mãi mãi ở trong tim của chúng ta. Cầu mong anh Hưởng an nghỉ ngàn thu.
