Hayley was such a light, she made everyone in the room smile and had an excellent sense of humor and outlook on life. She fought very hard and still approached every day with kindness and love! The world will miss such a beautiful soul. my condolences to Denise, Evan and all of her loved ones 💕
I was so sorry to hear of Hayley’s passing. Denise often told stories of Hayley’s accomplishments and adventures, so I almost feel like I know her.  Keeping her family in my prayers.
I am so sorry to hear of Hayley’s passing. I only had the pleasure of meeting her in person one time this past summer but know her mom, Denise who regularly water walked with my friends and I.  Denise always spoke of her wonderful daughter and her very courageous battle with cancer.  My condolences to her husband, mom and other family and friends.

My friend. I was lucky to know Hayley since 7th grade. She was my bestie  in middle school, my bridesmaid and life long friend. We had so many fun adventures together.  Hayley loved life to the fullest and showed by example how to live the best life.  I will miss you Gorm. My love to Denise, Evan and all of her family and friends.

The first time I did a long group run with Hayley, we chatted almost the whole run. We laughed a lot, shared stories, and realized we had many life similarities about family stuff and December birthdays near Christmas but we weren’t the same sign.

It was one of those moments you realize, this woman is special. She brought people together.  She was always curious and wanted to know about you. She could’ve been a talk show host like Oprah.

For every obstacle she spoke of, she  seemed to have overcome it or was actively working on it. She was resilient and something I really admired about her, she was real.

Hayley is a light in the dark. A light that will be greatly missed by everyone who crossed her path. I will never forget you Hayley.

Denise, Evan and family my thoughts and prayers are with you! I have so many wonderful memories of growing up with Hayley! From my first slumber party to rollerblading down Cottage Grove Rd! She was a beautiful soul who even at a young age had a true grasp of living life to its fullest! I am so happy I got to call her a friend for so many years! Heaven gained a good one! ❤🙏
May God be with you Evan, I am so sorry for your great loss! She was so inspirational and her legacy will live on! She touched SO many lives! Love you Hayley

The day we did each others hair and makeup and then drove around doing photo shoots in public places. Hayley Schmidtke, I will never forget the years we spent as roommates. Working together, living together, partying together and still always happy to see each other. The way you let your cereal bowls sit and get crusty for days. The way you drank pickle juice straight from the pickle jar. The MONTHS you spent watching The Blair Witch Project every night despite my fear and dislike for scary movies. The amount of time we put into planning the perfect answering machine messages. Driving around in your itty bitty little red convertible blasting Destiny's Child. The friends we found, the boys we helped each other get over. I have more memories with you than most people in my life and every one of them makes me smile. I've never seen anyone fight harder for their life than you have these last couple years. You always have been, and always will be one of the strongest people I have ever known. I hope you can rest in peace and know the incredible impact you had on this world and everyone whose lives you touched. You will be greatly missed my friend. ❤️

Hayley & Emily during the race — with Emily Baehr and Hayley Schmidtke
Hayley and Evan were friends of a friend, and they let me stay with them for four nights when I was visiting Oregon for the Shakespeare festival. I had no idea at the time that the conversations that occurred over these four nights would be some of the most impactful ones I've ever had. Hayley was kind, wise, and warm, and even though she had never met me she welcomed me into her home with open arms, introduced me to her cats and even trusted me with her car! We talked for two hours in her kitchen standing up about what we wanted out of life, how to navigate transitions, and how even the best laid plans can change--she had such great humor, insight, and perspective that I immediately felt compelled to journal after our conversation and wrote "I am so excited for the rest of my life!" Even knowing Hayley for a short time, it is so clear what an exceptional person, friend, and partner she is, and the number of lives she's touched is truly astounding. I am so grateful that we crossed paths, and can honestly say that I try to emulate her often, that I think of her frequently, and that I'll never forget her.

I’m so sorry to hear this. Hayley was a wonderful person and friend to my daughter,Lacey. So many memories from St Matt’s.

Our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this sad time.

Wanda and Pete Bilden
