George's obituary

We knew he was going to be a good sleeper as he slept from 1am till 9am within a few weeks of being born. He slept for England but the problem was getting him to sleep in the first place as he had boundless energy and never succumbed early to sleeping.

He loved a good lie-in even on Christmas Day he was never an early riser and Tracy and Simon would be up for a few hours waiting for him to wake up and open his presents.

George’s first cinema outing at 2.5 years old was him avidly watching Madagascar and then dancing in the aisles to the closing credits with the song “I like to move it”

He was a caring boy as Simon was coming out of hospital after his varicose vein operation. He insisted on carrying his bag even though it nearly weighed him down and he almost toppled over.

George was an avid reader and liked a bedtime story read to him. He was like most boys, obsessed with Thomas the Tank Engine and always asked for “Gordons Dream! Every night without fail until we mixed it up a bit.

George loved art before he could form drawings and text he would colour and do patterns and then when they got Toki the cat just before his seventh birthday he played a major role in George’s art creating comics and superhero characters of the cat. The cat featured in all George’s school books even his maths book much to the frustration of the teachers but every parents day Tracy and Simon would be laughing at the funniness and characters he portrayed in his school books.

He would make lots of things and he loved plasticine and making moshi monster characters and his characters from his drawings in plasticine. He would then spend hours creating scenes and playing with them.

George was a player escort for Micah Richards in the Manchester City FA Cup final in 2011 when Simon won a manchester evening news competition and was treated like a star when the paper rang him and he then had an interview and was mentioned in assembly and had all his classmates watching him on TV. When the game started within a few minutes of him coming to his seat with Simon he said “You will be annoyed with me as I need the toilet” I was more proud of him calmly handling the crowd noise and as City won he was seen dancing on the seats and joining in the singing.

He entered an art competition and was presented with the second place trophy by Frank Sidebottom who pretended to nearly drop it as he handed it to him making George giggle.

George was a free spirit and confident as a child. He went through a Michael Jackson phase and had a few hats and entered a Haven holiday talent contest but just made it up on stage and didn’t practise. He got through to the final and was runner up. He never entered the school talent contest but he did get up and dance when someone did a Michael Jackson number in the aisles and got quite a bit of attention. Tracy took him to a Michael Jackson show at the Lowry and he could not help standing up and dancing so much so that quite a lot of people were watching him and as we left the theatre people came up to him congratulating him on his performance.

At the age of 10 on world book day he decided to write his own book The Great Goat Getaway and go as the main character which was a goat. There were no goat costumes anywhere so it was a frantic scramble on how we could make George into a goat. Not only that but he was still writing the book the night before and had Tracy up till the early hours photocopying the pages and making it into a large book for him to take in the following day.

Halloween was always an interesting time with George. When he was 10 he went to a Halloween event in Altrincham with Henry and decided he would cut up some of his old clothes and wear his school olympic medals and he didn't look scary but then went onto have his face painted at the event and when asked by the judges who he was he said he was an olympic zombie and went on to win the fancy dress contest. In his teens he once went as his George the Horse character with his horse face mask on and once went as a banana with his friend Henry going as a lobster.

He was an animal lover and was gentle and kind with Toki and loved his Aunty Sharon's puppy dogs and more recently Tracy’s friend Helen’s puppies and dogs up in Whitby running on the beach with them and chasing balls. He became a vegetarian at the age of 13 due to his love of animals.

Always happy to walk on holidays and paddle on a lilo. When we went to Corfu when he was 12 he was in the pool every day until he got water in his ears and then he spent the last 3 days in-side the hotel to the amusement of the staff and frustration of his parents.

When he was 11 he started creating funny dancing/music videos on youtube which highlighted his cheeky humour and creative personality.

He had aspirations of being a filmmaker and had written quite a lot of scripts, music lyrics and poems for making youtube videos as recent a s 2021. He was a lover of the arts and enjoyed independent films and was really keen on recent films Knives Out, Parasite and Farewell. Tracy managed to get him to the theatre a couple of times in 2019 and would come out and say to him that was a good play and George would then explain to her all bits where the lighting was good or could be improved and the same with film he would critique the shots and camera angles and what had been done well and what could have been done better.

He went to Keith Haring’s first UK exhibition at Tate Liverpool twice in 2019 and visited the Picasso museum in October 2019 in Antibes when he visited Andrea and Ian in France. Both artists had an impact on George.

George enjoyed gaming like most boys and spent a lot of time gaming with his friends over the years. His online persona’s included georgethehorse, shibuya,  shibooyah and the one he was best know as cheekybananaboy. He was loyal, empathetic, sensitive and a confidante for his friends and he cared deeply for them. He carried through his sense of humour sending them jokes and memes. Last year George met Zoe who lived in London and Tracy took him down to see her three times in July and August and had hoped to take him to see her in November but this didn’t happen due to lockdown sadly and the struggle with his mental health.

To sum up, George was different. He was unique and quirky with such a sense of fun and humour but he was a very sensitive and gentle person who struggled in his teens as he did not fit any boy stereotype and was happier in female company. He was intelligent, emphatic and kind and he was simply Goerge.
