Firstly a big thank you to all our family and friends who contributed to George's bench. After three long years George's Bench was installed yesterday on what will now be known as Altrincham Community Orchard.
Made by Andy Burgess a very talented Wood Sculptor. We are so thrilled and delighted with what he has made it is truly a beautiful work of art.
We want it to be enjoyed by the local community young and old.
We wanted it to capture George's unique creativity and imagination but most importantly George's fantastic personality of humour and fun.
On the left we have George's cartoon cat Toki that he drew many variations. This version was more angular and felt right for the bench. We have him cheekily peering over with his paws and his ball of wool unraveling at the bottom. If you move to the side of the bench you will find Toki's tail peeping out.
The banana is a link to George's online persona known to his friends as cheekybananaboy.
The horseshoe is a connection to another persona George had around age 11-13 when he was known as GeorgeTheHorse and bought a horse mask and scripted and made some YouTube skit videos in his character with his friends.
The diamond at the side links with George's love of gaming and rap music. It's a reference to a parody Rap he did online with his friend Jack in New Zealand called My Name Is Steve My Number is Diamond.
On the right hand side we have an Apple and Pear linking the bench to the orchard it now sits in.
The character faces on the fruit are taken from two of George's drawings We have a cheeky worm popping out and saying hello.
We have a heart from another of George's drawings with his signature logo he used to call it.
The bird prints are a link to George's love of pigeons and a link to George's cheeky humour. He called all pigeons Steve and a reference to Minecraft. They lead to a little door of imagination.
On the side we have vine leaves which was a lovely idea from his friend Angel. We see this as a tie into nature and a way of seeing George forever intertwined in our lives and through our love of him it will help us grow, show compassion, understanding and care for everyone we meet.
We will have the plaque installed in the next couple of weeks.
