I met Eric in the kitchen of our office.  I had seen him around the office before but we never spoke.  I thought he seemed every intelligent but not friendly and  very serious.  After meeting him , he came to lunch with our group several times after that.  I saw a completely different person than who I thought he was.  He was so funny,  warm,  caring,  humble, and incredibly friendly! He loved his family so  much and prioritized them over anything else.  We became good work friends and I really enjoyed getting to know him.  It was a privilege to be his friend and I'll never forget him.  He made a lasting impression on my life.
Though I knew Eric in high school, we became close friends while studying philosophy and playing music together in college. Since then we kept in consistent touch and would always meet up once or twice a year, even across hundreds or thousands of miles. Eric was simply an exemplary, inimitable human being – I have never known a more original thinker, a closer reader, a sharper writer, a more disciplined musician, or a finer friend. There will never be anyone else remotely like him. Sending my heartfelt condolences to his family; may his memory forever be a blessing to all whose lives he touched.

Eric threw a lotta signs and flossed a tooth every hundred yards we'd walk to the library every morning. Seen here signaling imminent departure.
