Emily's obituary
Emily was a beautiful, radiant human. She was incredibly devoted to her friends and family and applied all of her energy to helping anyone she could, however she could. Every room was a brighter place for having her in it, and the world is a little bit darker now that she’s gone.
Emily accomplished so much in her far-too-brief time on this planet, ceaselessly dedicating herself to worthy causes. She channeled that passion into her career as a renewable energy engineer and brought great joy and skill to her work. She graduated with High Distinction from the University of Virginia in 2016 and with Honors from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business in 2023.
Emily is survived by her husband Will Schwieder, her mother and father Jodi and Laurence McDuff, her siblings Sarah Grace and Duncan, her grandparents Susan and Bob Winnop, her grandfather Bill Perry, and many other relatives and friends.
Emily loved her time at the University of Virginia as a rare double major in French and Civil Engineering. In lieu of flowers, Emily’s family requests that gifts in her memory be made to the University of Virginia to support civil engineering scholarships. To make a gift, access the online giving portal at www.givecampus.com/campaigns/… and select "Dept Civil Engineering - In memory of Emily McDuff" using the Designation dropdown.
Emily’s family would also welcome support for Emily’s favorite place in the world, Camp McDowell. To make a gift in Emily’s memory to the Camp McDowell Camper Scholarship Fund, please visit www.tithe.ly/give_new/www/#/t….
Emily will be missed. She will be loved. And she will be remembered. Always, always.
