Elaine's obituary
Elaine K. MacDonald, 78, of Hot Springs Village Arkansas, passed away peacefully April 27, 2024.
She was born January 6, 1946 in Shreveport, Louisiana, to George and Joyce Kirspel.
After receiving her Radiologic Technologist degree in 1966, Elaine started her first job as an X-ray technician at Willis Knighton Hospital in Shreveport. In 1967 she met the love of her life, Charles MacDonald, and they married three months later. They had three children together, Colleen, Christa and Michael, and spent the next 56 years together sharing the deepest love and affection for each other.
From 1968 to 2008 Elaine raised her family, nurturing them along their journey across 7 states, 10 homes, 24 schools and too many activities to mention. As the children grew older Elaine continued her career in the medical field, working in various administrative positions.
She retired to Hot Springs Village in 2009 with Chuck, and immersed herself in many things she loved, including square dancing, golfing, scrapbooking, church groups, and more. Retirement also gave Elaine the chance to nurture her artistic talents, and she discovered she had a gift for Chinese Water Color paintings. Several of her pieces were sold to the public, and many will be on display at her Celebration of Life.
Among Elaine's finest qualities was her beautiful, giving heart. Elaine worked countless hours volunteering for multiple organizations, including CHI St. Vincent Hospital, Garland County Hospice Program, Jackson House of Hot Springs, PEO International, Ladies of Sacred Heart, and more.
Elaine had a kindness and gentleness about her that was unique, and she never had a bad word or harsh judgement against anyone. (Unless you used curse words, then she would scold you once but let it go after that…)
Elaine was also a VORACIOUS reader! She loved a good mystery. By family estimates she read as many as 10,000 books in her lifetime. She held a quick wit, and great retention of facts about many small but important things, such as birds, plants, books, recipes, family histories and more. She deeply loved traveling, nature, her family, her husband, and her Lord.
Elaine was an angel walking among us, and she has now returned to God. We were so blessed to have had her here on Earth.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, George and Joyce Kirspel, and her brother John Kirspel.
Elaine is survived by her husband Charles MacDonald, daughters Colleen Makare, (husband Craig), Christa Mancuso (husband Frank), and son Michael MacDonald, as well as five grandchildren: Dylan, Jack, Gavin, Aubrie and Ryan. She also leaves behind her brother Kenneth Kirspel (wife Kathy), brother Kerry Kirspel (wife Dorcas), sister Laura Kirspel and Sister-in-law Donna Kirspel.
Her Celebration of Life will be held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Hot Springs Village, on Saturday May 4th, 2024 at 11:00 am CST. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
