Donna's obituary
On Monday, April 11th 1960, Donna Elaine was born to Mildred Gertrude and Jesse Wilson Griffin as their last baby girl. She grew up in Roper, NC alongside her four siblings whom she loved.
At the age of 17 she met the love of her life, Willie Edward Allen, with whom she grew and laughed with for 47 years. They were soon wed and she became Donna Griffin Allen on July 9th, standing by his side with unwavering support and commitment. They built a home, a family and unconditional love for each other during their many years together.
Her personal drive for success eventually led her to a career in Human Resources which she dedicated every fiber of her being to and will always be remembered for. Hundreds of people have been permanently impacted by the steadfast devotion, passionate dedication, and true personalization that she showed to each and every person who sat down in her office over the years.
Donna's truest self will be found in the memories of her children who were her entire world - her heart, soul, and absolute reason she lived. She coined them as “Her Greatest Accomplishments”. She first became a mom to Jesi Elaine Allen, and later, Will Taran Allen, who completed and brought out the best parts of her. They will miss her with everything they are for the rest of their lives, and will honor her every chance they get.
Among the many things she was, she was first and foremost an unequivocal force within a tiny body, with the most particular hair routine. She was the epitome of selfless, taking care of family near and far in any and every way she could. She fiercely loved her mother, our Nana, and devoted the last 20 years of her life to her care. We will always see her in a beach sunrise or chilling in a sunset, every Gerbera daisy, and every time a beautiful swingy dress passes by us. She was a Saint to all animals, especially cats, the scariest person to go up against, but also the most loyal and fun-loving friend to have in your corner. We will think of her smiling and feel her in every Aerosmith song, and every Sunday drive in the sunshine in a fast car. Her love for, and genuine happiness brought by her pets, her plants, and the time we all could spend together (grand-fur-babies included), will be what comes to mind when we think of home.
In the life she lived post-stroke, the family would like to extend the sincerest of heartfelt thanks to her caregivers and friends who singlehandedly helped us through the toughest time in our collective lives. The unimaginable changes and challenges she faced over the last ten months allowed her to find and share her innermost self for which we are eternally grateful for. She was the best; and we are forever touched that others got to see it, too.
A private graveside service was held in Oakdale Cemetery.
