Don's obituary
Donald Kenneth Sieburg, Jr., 76, of Nags Head, NC, passed away unexpectedly on January 28, 2022 of natural causes.
A self-professed "technology geek," Don loved all things computer, starting with his very first, a TRS-80 purchased 1979. He spent countless hours learning as much as he possibly could about computers and then how to apply those learnings to practical uses. Most recently, he enjoyed many happy hours creating things with his CNC machine.
Photography was central in Don's life. From his time as a Photographer's First Mate in the Navy followed by work for Viewmaster, through remote photography via drones with son, Don III, he photographed everything, a camera never far from his hands. With the perfection of digital cameras, his two passions of electronic technology and photography merged giving him immense joy as he discovered the power of digital editing. (See his Jedi picture in the memories section for one humorous example.)
Throughout much of his adult life, Don headed up private businesses, starting with Grafix, GFX Corp., and Studio DSC. The common theme through all...the merger of graphic arts and technology via screen printing.
A warm and friendly smile always greeted those who encountered Don. He never liked large crowds, but in small gatherings, you could depend on him to make everyone feel welcome. And, the more time you spent with him, the more his clever wit and sense of humor would make itself known.
Don loved being in the sunshine, spending many hours walking on the beach with his wife, Denise, relaxing by the water, and boating with family. In his younger days, he was an avid sailor, racing in many regattas with his father both on Lake Sunapee in New Hampshire and on the Gulf of Mexico.
With a soft spot for critters, Don adopted many dogs, cats, hamsters, and rabbits throughout the years. He even went so far as to bring home a skunk (de-scented, of course) for Holly and Don III and rescue an abandoned baby racoon to be raised by the family.
Don was predeceased by his parents, Doris and Don Sieburg Sr., and brother Douglas "Kim" Sieburg. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Denise Sieburg, sisters Judith Sieburg and Jacqueline Bussell, children Holly Longstreet (Robert) and Don III (Darby), stepchildren Dr. Zachary Swartz (Susan), Dr. Rachel Swartz, and Dr. Dana Guynes (Danny). He was also the proud grandfather of Holly's sons, Evan and Nathaniel, Zach's sons, Ryan, Evan, and Colton, Rachel's sons, Ronan and Brendan, and Dana's daughters, Mia and Noelle.
A service to celebrate Don's life is being planned to take place this summer in Nags Head, NC. Details will be shared when available.
