Donald's obituary

Donald William (Bill) Maddux, 94, of California, peacefully passed away on May 30, 2022 after a long and joyful life, in San Ramon.

Our father, Bill was born on July 9, 1927 to Charles and Marie Maddux in San Luis Obispo. As a young child his family, including his two older brothers, Richard and Kenneth moved to San Jose, where Bill spent the best of his formative years.

He was the devoted husband of Arlene (who he met in grammar school) for 62 years prior to her passing. Together they formed lifelong friendships, which he nurtured his entire life.

As a young man, our father learned the importance of hard work and he instilled that same work ethic in many a friend and colleague. While working his way through college, pursuing a degree in accounting at San Jose State, Bill found a passion in sales – selling custom windows to homebuilders in the Santa Clara valley. He became an accomplished salesman and sales manager that led many people to success with his wisdom, unselfish knowledge, and kindness.

He was always there for us, and taught us the importance of family, respect, hard work and doing what is right. He was sharp as a tack until the day he left us, and could still tell a story with the same wit and charisma as he did in his younger years.

He was known as The Eagle to those he led, a warm friend to those he met, and a loving dad and grandpa to those of us he gave life to.

One of the warmest souls you could ever meet, our father was a gentle, giving man who worked tirelessly and was a friend to all who crossed his path. He faced every challenge in life with admirable strength and courage.

Our father was a true role model who we will always look up to. He is survived by his children Donna Maddux of Kauai, HI, Christian Maddux of San Jose, and William Maddux of Danville. Grandchildren Mark Martinico, Heather Martinico, Evangeline Cook, Allison Maddux, Michael Maddux, William (Alex) Maddux, Austin Maddux, and Ellie Maddux and two great-grandchildren Mateo Hazera and Moreno Hazera.

A celebration of life will be held at The Maddux residence at 205 Santiago Court in Danville, CA on July 30, 2022 at 12 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association in memory of his wife Arlene.

Dad, you are now at peace, but you will live on forever in our hearts. We love you so much. Rest in peace.
