Derald's obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we share, Derald W. Monson, 80, of Maple Grove, MN passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, January 4th.
Derald was born July 25, 1943 in Emmons, Minnesota to George and Blanche Monson. He grew up in a busy household with six siblings including Ardien, Iona, Gloria, Gale, Wally, and Bonnie. After graduating from Emmons High School, Derald moved to Minneapolis where he shared many adventures with treasured cousins and childhood friends.
Derald pursued a career in IT when the profession was in its infancy. In one of his early roles, he met the love of his life Judy. They enjoyed 56 years of marriage full of compassion, love, and laughter while always surrounded by family and friends.
Together Derald and Judy raised two daughters, Nichol and Heidi. Derald treasured his grandchildren Robyn, Andy and Jordyn Edwards attending dance recitals, soccer games and birthday celebrations always with sparkling eyes filled with pride and love.
In his free time, Derald loved tinkering in the garden, decorating for Christmas, and walking on the beach in Florida during winter getaways. He was a loyal Vikings season ticket holder and enjoyed showing off his Vikings tattoo which he got at age 69.
Derald’s kindness was unmatched. He was there for many family and friends during their lowest times and always present to celebrate the best in life. He reminded us all that the difficult moments of our lives do not define us and that there is always hope.
Derald is survived by his wife, Judy; children, Nichol Monson Edwards, Heidi (Chris) Perman; grandchildren Robyn Edwards, Andy Edwards & Jordyn Edwards; siblings, Iona Boelter, Gale (Phyllis) Monson, Wally Monson, Bonnie (Pat) Maher as well as many treasured friends, nieces & nephews.
The family has deep gratitude for the staff at Arbor Lakes Senior Living and Brighton Hospice Care who have been a tremendous support every step of this journey.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to the Alzheimer's Association.
