Dave's obituary
With deep love and sorrow, we share the passing of Dave Machlitt on May 15 due to complications from a hemorrhagic stroke, at the age of 74.
Dave was born on March 6, 1951, in Minnesota and spent his life cultivating curiosity, kindness, and laughter. He lived in many places across California—North Hollywood, Davis, Ventura, Moorpark, and Camarillo—and left a quiet impact everywhere he went.
A true nature lover, Dave found his calling as an entomologist, where he ran his own business and was a big part of the Ventura County agriculture community. His fascination with insects began early and carried through a career that also included beekeeping and almond picking.
He was happiest outside—hiking, gardening, and soaking in the world around him. One of his favorite adventures was an African photo safari with his beloved wife and good friends, and hiking rim to rim of the Grand Canyon - just to name a few.
He had a sharp wit, a dry sense of humor, and a knack for slipping in a joke (sometimes inappropriate, always memorable). More than anything, Dave was a supportive, loving presence—someone who always showed up for the people he cared about.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years Lydia, his daughter Elizabeth, son-in-law Alex, his sister Diana, nephew Todd, niece Crissy, great-nephew Luke, closest friends and travel companions Juanita and Charlie, niece Alondra (Alex, Jesse, Paloma), nephew Sergio (Jessica, Savannah, Dominic), dozens of family members from Puerto Rico such as Lydia's two brothers and four sisters, and many amazing people he was honored to call friends. He joins his parents Lorraine and Glenn, sister Debbie, and good friend Jesse “Chuy” Suarez in rest.
Dave leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and wonder. We will always carry his memory in our hearts. Always loved, never forgotten. In lieu of flowers, you can make a tax deductible donation to the local nonprofit organization Chicas Adelante (led by his niece Alondra) at chicasadelante.org/donate
