BAXTER: Daniel P., 91, born and raised in Ithaca, New York, and resident of Moraga and Walnut Creek, CA, passed away in San Jose, CA, on Friday, September 6, 2024.

After graduating Ithaca High School, Daniel spent a year at the Holderness School before pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering at Cornell University in 1951. In 1954 his studies were interrupted by the Korean War when he joined to serve as navigator in the USAF, crisscrossing the Pacific theater during his time in service.

Dan married Rogene (Weed) in 1960. Upon completing his BS at Cornell (1961) he began an exciting 25 year career with the Bechtel Corporation, managing varied and numerous construction sites around the U.S. and overseas. After retiring from Bechtel, he spent the next 30 years as owner of an interval timer manufacturing company, providing high quality timers to training facilities, rehabilitation programs, manufacturing corporations and numerous university athletics programs all over the United States and around the world.

Throughout his life Dan was his happiest when surrounded by his family, engaged in the many hobbies and activities that he loved. Family times were spent water and snow skiing, swimming, snorkeling, camping and messing around in boats. As adults, he mentored and loved his children’s spouses and as if they were his own. Raised Presbyterian, he served faithfully as an elder and group leader in the many churches his family attended over the years.

Daniel is preceded in death by his parents Hubert Eugene and Phebe Baxter, his sister Louise Gerrity and his beloved wife of 62 years, Rogene Weed Baxter. He is survived by his daughter Becki Kelly (Matt), Jeff Baxter (Kris) and Marshall Baxter, whom he loved deeply. He was a beloved “Papa” to his 4 grandchildren, Sean, Daniel (Sarah), Sara (Brian) and Melissa, and to his 3 great grandchildren, Joshua, Madison and Stephen.

Celebration of his life will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday, September 21, 2024, in the Almaden Room at Brookdale Senior Living, San Jose, CA.
