Coach Olsen,

Thank you so much for being such an amazing role model, teacher, coach and friend.  I am beyond grateful we were able to be part of your (because no one could ever measure up) wrestling experience at Wheatland HS.  I feel Andrew and Shante’ are who they are today because of you.  You always worked so hard, had a contagious and positive spirit,  patience beyond us parents while helping our kids, and the most enormous heart out of any faculty we knew.  You are missed dearly and will forever have a special place in our hearts!

I worked with Cy at Wheatland High School. He was a new vice principal. Admin was hard on him. He wanted to quit. I stuck by him, he percevered, He was loved by students and staff. He was a wonderful wrestling coach, so talented, he brought the program back to greatness. When he went to Yuba City High I was fortunate to get to work with him again. He shined there. Kids loved him. He had found his calling. He's a great man, greatly remembered.

Rest in peace, Mr. Olsen. I don’t even know where to begin—just like so many others whose lives you touched.

What you did and the impact you had on people is something every generation that knew you will always remember. You were such a pivotal and important part of my high school life. You meant the world to me, simply because you never gave up on me.

35 suspensions in one semester!!!and time and time again.you still stood by my side and advocated for me when most didn’t You’re a huge reason I was able to graduate, join the Air Force, and continue passing on the same kind, patient, and positive spirit you showed me in hs even during the toughest times.

Mr. Olsen, thank you for everything. You will never be forgotten.

Through my volunteer assisting with the guitar class at the high school, I was presented by the band leader at the time with the prospect of taking over as instructor one of the guitar classes.

Even though I had been a skilled guitarist and instructor for many years, I did not have a credential for the position.

I went into Principal Cy's office and explained the situation, and he immediately stopped what he was doing and began filling out an exemption request form to send to the school district to see if I could be allowed to teach the class.

Even though he and I both knew the chances were slim of having the request approved, Cy was still willing to go to bat for me and put in all the energy he could to support my cause.

The request did not ultimately get approved, which was ok with me as my lasting memory and impression was of Cy's unconditional and sincere willingness to help me out, to take an interest in my situation especially being a lower tier faculty member, it really meant a lot to me and still does to this day.

Thank you Cy for this wonderful memory and inspiration.

Dear Cy,

Thank you for pushing me through school when I didn’t believe in myself. I’m who I am today because of you, you didn’t allow me to fail my classes when I was at my lowest… you saw potential in me and pushed me to the hardest! Thank you for always being your goofy self and for always bringing new ideas to the table to make our school a better environment.

You are forever going to be missed by many!! We love you Cy, rest easy 🌺.

My favorite memory of Cy is when he gave me his raffle ticket prize which was a $50 gift card to “Dickey’s Barbecue Pit”… this day I was having a rough time, he saw that within my energy 🌺… and offered me his gift to put a smile on my face.

Thank you for always having the biggest, sweetest heart!
