Claire's obituary
Claire MacDonald Black of Miami, FL passed away at her home on March 22, 2022 at age 79. She was born to Josephine MacDonald in Miami in 1942. Claire was a graduate of Barry University and worked as an Executive Secretary for George Smathers at Smathers & Thompson and later as a paralegal for the Det Joks law office .
Claire loved Christ and lived her life by "Love God" and “Love One Another” commands. She was influenced by the poems "Life's Mirror" by Madeline Bridges and "Desiderata" by Max Ehrmann.
Generous with her time and stories, she loved those around her and always worked to resolve conflicts. She especially loved her family and her wonderful neighbors. She extended this love to animals, including her great canine companion, Maggie. She was known for helping many a cat, stray or otherwise, by giving them care, love, and food. She often found them homes, sometimes her own.
Connecting with others and being involved was always important to her. She was involved at church, first St Thomas and then St Louis. She connected with others through the prayer muffin group, the Red Hat Society, and her book club.
She battled a life-long lung disease later discovered to be a rare form of cystic fibrosis. She met this challenge, like any, head on with a stubborn and determined spirit passed down from her mother and her Scottish heritage. Never one to complain, she went on to travel, raise a family, work, play, help others, and care for her mother.
Claire will be lovingly remembered by her son, Michael (Kate) Black, daughter, Diana Neeman, granddaughter Ariel Neeman, grandsons Aiden Black, Jack Black, and Benjamin Black, and cousins Ada, Mora, Florence, and Claire. She is missed dearly. May her memory live on forever in those who knew and loved her.
