Cheryl Ann Bolden-Vasquez, sister to Paul Gordon Bolden, daughter of Paul Jones Bolden and Florence Edna Gordon-Bolden was born in Kirtland, Ohio on May 13, 1938.  Cheryl and her brother Paul grew up in Cleveland’s Glenville neighborhood on East 114th & Superior Ave. Cheryl and her brother Paul were very close and had each other’s back while growing up.

As a youth, Cheryl was very talented in Art, specifically “drawing,” she later attended Cleveland Institute of Art but was unable to pursue art as a career due to the times.  During her teenage and young adult life, Cheryl became very involved in the Catholic Church and even considered becoming a Nun, but Cheryl also loved to Latin Dance (Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, etc.).  She would often say in jest “my desire to become a Nun changed when I met Felipe Vazquez at a Latin Dance and I told the Church - never mind!”  Cheryl Bolden married Felipe Vazquez and they had two children (Felipe Miguel Vasquez and Kevin Orlando Vasquez).  Cheryl and Felipe later divorced and she never remarried, stating that “once is enough.” Cheryl then put all of her efforts into raising her two sons (Felipe & Kevin).

Cheryl lived in Cleveland, Ohio much of her young adult life and later moved to Warrensville Hts. Ohio where she finished raising her two sons.  Cheryl spent her later years at a Senior Building located in Euclid, Ohio.  Cheryl’s pastimes during her senior years were family and she re-invented her childhood love of collecting dollhouses.  She enjoyed creating, staging and beautifying her dollhouses.

Cheryl was a very strong advocate for our families present, past and future.  It brought Cheryl much joy to research our families “roots.” Cheryl developed a vast collection of family photos stretching all the way back to the late 1800’s/early 1900’s that documented this history.  Cheryl had significant knowledge of family history that we will all miss and hope that we can pick up where she left off.  In closing, here are two messages directly from Cheryl Vasquez:

“I love my family (all of you) very much and God will be with you always and also in your heart.”

“Don’t cry, be happy that I am in the Lord thy Gods house with Jesus Christ forever,

       Love Mother”

Cheryl leaves to cherish her memory:

Her two sons & daughter-in laws, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and other family and friends.
