In Loving Memory of Elder Charles "Lorie" Purdey
July 28, 1935 – June 13, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Elder Charles "Lorie" Purdey. Lorie passed away peacefully at home on June 13, 2025, surrounded by his family and in the arms of his loving wife. He was 89 years old.
Lorie was known for his warm spirit, sense of humor, and unwavering kindness, he deeply enriched the lives of those around him. His devotion to Christ and lifelong service to the Seventh-day Adventist Church were a testament to his enduring faith.
Lorie was born in Portland, Oregon. His father Elder Arthur Purdey ordained him in 1962 as a Seventh-Day Adventist minister. In his early years, Lorie traveled as an evangelistic singer and minister, sharing the message of hope and salvation through Christ. His passion for mission work led him to build a church overseas and embark on numerous trips, including to Israel and the Middle East. He visited a total of 81 countries! For the past decade, he found spiritual nourishment and fellowship at Loma Linda University Church, where he remained a devoted attendee.
Lorie's legacy continues through his beloved wife, Julia Purdey, and his sons, Randy, Charles, and Corie Purdey. He was also a devoted stepfather to Christy Seals, Lara Martin, and Stephanie Valenzuela. Lorie was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry forward his legacy of love, strength, and faith.
A memorial service celebrating Lorie’s life will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 3:30 PM at Loma Linda University Church. His family warmly invites all who knew and loved Lorie to join in honoring a life so richly lived.
Lorie’s memory will forever be a guiding light to those he touched, a beacon of grace, generosity, and deep faith.
