While on a three-week road trip with my husband and two kids in 2022, we were passing through Bozeman for a night, and on the day we arrived I sent Brian a text asking if he and Whitney (whom I'd never met) would like to meet us for a drink or dinner. He suggested that we just come over. We were expecting maybe a beer and a hang. But instead, we showed up to find Whitney preparing an incredible spread, Brian pitching in in the kitchen while we caught up, and despite the fact that I hadn't seen him in nearly 30 years (our parents were good friends so we used to hang out here and there as kids) he was beyond kind and welcoming and as funny as ever. We ate in their backyard at a table setup that looked straight out of a magazine spread. Their home was beautiful, I immediately fell in love with Whitney, and when my family's trip ended a couple weeks later, we all talked about our visit with them as one of the highlights. I am so glad I got to see him so relatively recently, even though it made the news of his passing that much more shocking and painful. Sending Whitney and Mr. and Mrs. Caldwell (who welcomed us for breakfast the following day) all our love. And hoping Brian can somehow feel some of it too.
