Stunned and saddened by the news I happened upon this morning while looking up something about Level 3 Communications and then wondering if Bob was still working there, I will post a few thoughts. Almost 20 years ago, around 2003, Bob, when he operated NCGI (Network Communications Group, Inc.), was a consultant for the office where I work. His expertise not only allowed our office to install a statewide database from a vendor that needed help desperately, but also to build our wide-area network and, years later, to rescue our data from the brink of utter disaster. No matter the crisis we faced, a call to Bob was always the voice of calmness, reason, and, well, genius.
Small memories come to mind, as well, like hearing in the background some jazz--particularly by the sax man Dexter Gordon--during a call to Bob and thinking how well-rounded and cool he was, that he wasn't just a technology encyclopedia. And whenever I refer to myself as a technologist, I think about Bob because I'm basically just stealing his use of the term, which was one of the (many) earned titles he used, and much more deservedly than I could ever claim. Often I thought about him in terms that he could forget more technology in a day than I could learn in a lifetime--and he'd still be the the sharpest "technologist" probably in any room.
I could go on, but I'll wrap this up by saying even though I hadn't seen or contacted him for years, I'll remember that through his presence, by phone, e-mail or in person, he had the rare quality of being a mentor. I wish I could have told him that, despite the potential for embarrassment. Nevertheless, I'm forever grateful to have known him. R.I.P., Bob!

Bob, was an amazing gentleman! From a trainer, teacher, co-worker and friend Bob will always have a special place in my heart. He always had my back at work whether it was providers yelling at me about IT issues or 3rd party IT vendors being a bit well... not nice, Bob was always there!! I will remember Bob from the first time I met him. It was at the 2017 RIT Healthcare executive conference. I was still at Coal Creek Family Medicine at the time and attended the conference by myself. Bob welcomed me with open arms and sat the entire dinner and talked to me. He made me feel very welcome and from then on I knew RIT was a place I wanted to work and now almost 4 years later here I am. You will be missed tremendously Bob! Rest in Paradise! Sincere Condolences to Bob's Family and Friends.
