I have many fun stories with Ben in them from our time as roommates in college. Some of my favorites are as follows:
- the monthly “Superdates” where we, as an apartment, would splurge and go on a huge group date together. We would make shirts, and spend weeks planning the activities that would be involved in these massive over the top dates. From huge flour wars in the park, to indoor golf in the various campus buildings to flag football in the rain and mud. It was always an amazing time.
- clandestinely sniping people and each other across the parking lot with homemade “mooters” (marshmallow shooters) with Tim, Chad, and Matt and Adam. These were also spawned from a SuperDate.
- his constant projects in his marketing classes and funny schemes he would do as he explored business
- we had a soft stress ball that belonged to Tim our roommate. We often would throw it at each other as it did not hurt no matter how hard you threw it. One day, the apartment was all pretending to sleep in the living room as we often did on Sunday afternoons, and we knew Ben was coming home a bit later and would have a girl he was trying to impress with him. When Ben opened the door quietly, thinking we were all napping one of us slung the ball at him as hard as we could. The ball nailed him right in the giblets and he dropped in the doorway like a shot elk. We all laughed so hard, and so did Ben with the shock, and the girl just stood there dumbfounded- not having a clue what had happened. It was just dessert as Ben often nailed us by surprise with the same ploy.
-we had a flag football team called “The Thundermonkies” ben was able to get shirts made for us and we had such a great time!
- we onetime had a pair of ladies underwear that had gotten mixed with the laundry one day after a holiday break where guys and girls laundry had been done in the same machine but the underwear had been forgotten between batches and had been retrieved in his or his brother Matts laundry. Before we returned them to their rightful owner, we hid them in the back of Ben’s binder so that when he opened it up in class a pair of girls underwear would fall out. Later that day, Ben returned home laughing as our prank happened just the way we had planned!
- Ben was dead set on trying to get the President of the college and his wife to come have dinner with our apartment. He never succeeded, but he did get a question and answer event with him scheduled which was just as impressive.
- we all as an apartment would head over to Jackson hole and watch the amateur Hockey team, the Moose, play. Ben was always so much fun there.
- Ben carried on the Disco routine that his brother Matt and I had choreographed our freshman year. He helped make it a timeless staple with the ballroom company.
- We once made a video to “Its Raining Men” to advertise a ladies choice dance. He was always being creative and fun making life excellent for those around him.
Ben is a most valuable part of my memories of college. He made life fun for everyone around him and he was always such a caring individual. I am grateful that I knew him and that he was who he was. I sit here smiling and crying with the memories. My heart goes out to the Sweat Family and all of those that his life similarly touched in the same way he was in mine.
Love ya Ben!
