Aprilanne, Annalisa, Hayley, Ariana, Brielle, and Scott, we want you to know we love you so very much. Each of you,  and your Dad, are like family to us. And we are grieving with you and will be for a long, long time. I pray that you will feel the great love that so many feel for you at this time, and may that lessen the burden enough to get you through each day.

The only time I talked with Ben was fairly short, but it made a big impact on my family’s life.

After previously working with my husband, Chris, at Homie, Ben later introduced him to FlyHomes. Ben generously took a bunch of time to talk on the phone us while we were considering it, chatting and answering a lot of questions, never feeling rushed. He seemed like such a genuine, kind person.

I happened to walk by the virtual meeting Chris was in with the FlyHomes folks the morning after Ben’s passing, and everyone in the whole meeting was crying. You can tell Ben made such a positive impact on everyone he interacted with.

What a devastating shock. I worked with Ben at Demand Media. His positivity, curiosity, and diligence were contagious. He always spoke lovingly of his wife and of fatherhood. I enjoyed many great work and personal conversations with him. My thoughts are with his lovely family.
I was fortunate enough to have grown up with Ben…same neighborhood where our families were great friends. Went to all the same schools all the way through high school. What a great human being. This is such a heartbreaking loss. So very sorry for his sweet family. He was inspiring and he will be greatly missed by many no doubt.
I met Ben in 2009 at Demand Media. He was kind and a joy to be around during the brief time we worked together. I'm floored to learn of his passing. He will be missed.

In response to "What did Ben love to do?"
Ben and Aprilanne stayed at our house once before any of us had children. We had such a great time, it felt so good to connect! We didn't see them again for many years. 10 years later I called Ben up with a business question. I said, "Ben, I don't know if you remember me, but I am your wife's cousin..." He laughed in his merry way and said "Ginny, It doesn't matter how long it has been, I could never forget you all! How's Kevin?!" And then I knew, he really was my cousin too.  Rest in peace Ben, may angels surround you. Praying for love to surround your family now.  💞

Aprilanne and family,

We are saddened to hear of your terrible loss. We send our love, thoughts, and prayers to you as you remember your exceptional husband, father, friend and brother.

Tenderly,

Karen Dunn Mayry and family

I was absolutely stunned to read about Ben's passing on Facebook! I am so heartbroken and in disbelief! Ben was a wonderful person and friend! He had such a big heart and so much love for everybody! My heart goes out to Aprilanne, his kids and his family! I will miss him so much!
So sorry to hear of the loss.   Our memories of our great neighbors in California and our wonderful church family friends will stay with us forever.    We send prayers and hugs for Aprilanne and the children.  Ben was such a great guy and always a joy to be around.    He was such a loving father and so proud of his children.   He always had a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye.  He will be missed by so many.

I have many fun stories with Ben in them from our time as roommates in college. Some of my favorites are as follows:

- the monthly “Superdates” where we, as an apartment, would splurge and go on a huge group date together. We would make shirts, and spend weeks planning the activities that would be involved in these massive over the top dates. From huge flour wars in the park, to indoor golf in the various campus buildings to flag football in the rain and mud. It was always an amazing time.

-  clandestinely sniping people and each other across the parking lot with homemade “mooters” (marshmallow shooters) with Tim, Chad, and Matt and Adam. These were also spawned from a SuperDate.

- his constant projects in his marketing classes and funny schemes he would do as he explored business

- we had a soft stress ball that belonged to Tim our roommate. We often would throw it at each other as it did not hurt no matter how hard you threw it. One day, the apartment was all pretending to sleep in the living room as we often did on Sunday afternoons, and we knew Ben was coming home a bit later and would have a girl he was trying to impress with him. When Ben opened the door quietly, thinking we were all napping one of us slung the ball at him as hard as we could. The ball nailed him right in the giblets and he dropped in the doorway like a shot elk. We all laughed so hard, and so did Ben with the shock, and the girl just stood there dumbfounded- not having a clue what had happened. It was just dessert as Ben often nailed us by surprise with the same ploy.

-we had a flag football team called “The Thundermonkies” ben was able to get shirts made for us and we had such a great time!

- we onetime had a pair of ladies underwear that had gotten mixed with the laundry one day after a holiday break where guys and girls laundry had been done in the same machine but the underwear had been forgotten between batches and had been retrieved in his or his brother Matts laundry.  Before we returned them to their rightful owner, we hid them in the back of Ben’s binder so that when he opened it up in class a pair of girls underwear would fall out. Later that day, Ben returned home laughing as our prank happened just the way we had planned!

- Ben was dead set on trying to get the President of the college and his wife to come have dinner with our apartment. He never succeeded, but he did get a question and answer event with him scheduled which was just as impressive.

- we all as an apartment would head over to Jackson hole and watch the amateur Hockey team, the Moose, play. Ben was always so much fun there.

- Ben carried on the Disco routine that his brother Matt and I had choreographed our freshman year. He helped make it a timeless staple with the ballroom company.

- We once made a video to “Its Raining Men” to advertise a ladies choice dance. He was always being creative and fun making life excellent for those around him.

Ben is a most valuable part of my memories of college. He made life fun for everyone around him and he was always such a caring individual. I am grateful that I knew him and that he was who he was. I sit here smiling and crying with the memories. My heart goes out to the Sweat Family and all of those that his life similarly touched in the same way he was in mine.

Love ya Ben!

Dear Aprilanne and family,
My heart aches for your family. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers.
With love, Cherie Snead
Ben was a light to everyone who knew him. We met him and his sweet family during our time in Burbank and were continuously impressed by the kind, brilliant, funny, talented, and generous person he was. We feel lucky to have known him. Sending all our love and prayers to his entire family!

I consider myself extremely blessed to have known Ben and am so saddened by his absence. I know I wanted to get to know him even better, but I will have to wait a little longer before that day.

My heart goes out to Aprilanne and family - may God wrap his arms around you all with healing and comfort - treasure those memories of Ben forever.

We're grateful to have walked this earth for a time with Ben. The tender, joyful, gracious reverence he expressed at the birth of his babies left a deep impression. It was a privilege to bring dinner and to feel enveloped for a moment in that quiet joy, and then to watch those babies and the joy in your family grow. So many memories of our beloved Sweat family.

How our hearts ache for you all. We are holding you so close, Aprilanne. We love you, we love you, we love you. Your Burbank family loves you.

My sincerest condolences to Ben’s family.  Ben was about as friendly and authentic a man as I’ve known.  His beautiful family a reflection of the type of person he was.   I enjoyed his company and the few mountain biking outings I was able to have with him.
I had the great privilege of meeting Ben (and very briefly, his beautiful wife) for the first time this Summer during the Nauvoo trip with our church youth group. Ben and I worked together side-by-side as bus captains. Though it wasn't a long time that Ben was in my life, it was impactful. We talked about all kinds of things from families to work to hobbies to spiritual things during our long bus rides to and from Nauvoo. He was helpful, kind, engaging, organized, laid-back, happy, and fun. I'm so grateful for the brief moment in time I had to meet and get to know him. My own life is better for it. My thoughts, prayers, and love go out to his lovely wife, beautiful children, and extended family.
