What a beautiful human being who in 16 short years clearly touched the lives of so many in ways that they will never forget. Anna, Thank you for the light you brought to this world. May your spirit, energy, and personhood be remembered to make this world just a little kinder.

I knew Anna only through stories from their Mom, but I was struck by their wide range of interests and ideas. The world would have gained so much from them. I am so deeply sorry for this tragic loss.

Anna was a very special person and they were very special to us. Anna and Soren were friends from the early years in grade school at Crocker Farm. Soren always admired Anna's intelligence, athleticism, rugged competence at Morse Hill, love of the outdoors, and sense of fun. We all admired this. Anna had a graceful combination of depth and sense of purpose with an easy-to-be-with quality. I remember one wonderful day when they were in grade school or perhaps 7th grade and we were all at Amythest Brook. The kids -- Anna, Niko, Soren, Tesh, Ian, and Zack (I think) -- all took off together in a pack, free-ranging down the brook until we parents "lost" them. Of course they were ok, all the better for having been on their own but together in the woods. They were never lost.
A beautiful light has gone out of the world.
The tears keep coming. We love you, Burns family, and are grieving with you.

I was shocked and saddened today to learn about Anna's passing, far too soon and much too young. Anna was in my 9th grade Honors Global History class in the Fall of 2020, as we all struggled through the challenges of remote learning. Remote teaching/learning made it more difficult to get to know students and create the kind of learning community that one can in person. Yet, still, Anna's voice and spirit shone through. As examples: Anna chose to investigate the work of Christine de Pizan, who in the Middle Ages advocated for greater rights and respect for women. In a unit on dissenters, Anna created a tribute to the life of Marsha P. Johnson who Anna described as a "trans and LGBTQ+ rights activist, drag queen, performer, and survivor. . . . a voice for many marginalized groups and still today her work is overlooked despite its importance and clear long lasting effect. " As I took early retirement at the end of that school year, I was not fortunate to have Anna in class again. But it has been heartening to view all the tributes and photos in this memorial and see all the joy Anna had in the last few years. It is such a great loss that they will not be able to fulfill more of their dreams. My deepest condolences to their friends and family. May their memory be a blessing. And may others work to carry out their hopes for a healthier planet.
