Hans Mettler
1978, Switzerland, Zürich-Seebach

Recently, I was looking for people who had accompanied me on my journey through life and who were close to my heart. In doing so, I came across the sad news of Andrea Napier's death.

It was around 1978. Andi visited Switzerland with her parents and one of her sisters. Her parents were working in Switzerland for a while. The family lived in Zurich-Seebach, and Andi attended public school during this time.

Word quickly spread at the Buhnrain school that an “American girl” was attending the school. Andi made many friends in her new environment. I fondly remember the sightseeing tours by tram in Zurich, the visits to the zoo, the excursions in the Zurich area, and spending time with her family. On days off from school, Andi taught us English and we tried to teach her German. We enjoyed a carefree summer with her. It is a wonderful memory from my youth.

Andi was a cheerful young woman and there was always something going on with her.

When she left Switzerland, many friends accompanied the family to Zurich Airport. The family had to rent a small bus so that all their friends could come to the airport.

There were tears at the farewell.

I missed out on staying in touch with Andi. That hurts now. You should never lose sight of good friends. I appreciate that Andi accompanied me on a part of my life's journey.

I wish her family all the best.

(PS: My English is basic. Deepl helped me translate my thoughts from German into English. I hope we got the English words right.)

Andrea was the best person I have ever known. She was the best mother to our children, a passionate educator, and the best friend anyone could hope for. The saddest day of my life was when my son Brad called to inform me his mother had passed. I grieve for both Bradley and Alexandrea. No words can express the depth of my sorrow. My condolences go out to Cindy, David, Pam, Michelle, and Matt.

I have thought of Andi every single day of my life since the day I first met her…. I think of her still.

I will be attending Andi’s celebration of life in spirit only.

My most sincere love and regrets to Brad and Alex.

Andrea touched the lives of so many people.  I was blessed to call her a dear friend during her time in Hershey.  Andrea made the world a more beautiful place.  She created beauty through her deep love of her children, as well as the great many children she taught and helped raise.  Andrea shared a beautiful partnership with Matthew, she was a special friend to many, and was always a defender of the underdog.  So many people are better because their connection to her.  I wish that I had more time with her, and I treasure the memories I have .  I send my love and prayers to her family in this difficult time.

Out to dinner with the girls, the last time Andrea & Alex were in Hershey.
Kind, funny, exuberant, sweet Andrea. I can't help but smile when I remember you and Alex in your matching poodle skirts! Thank you for making me feel appreciated and know you were as well. May your family find peace in their hearts when they remember you too.
My sympathies to Andrea's family.  I remember her leadership at Allendale Columbia School with fondness and respect.
I am so sorry to hear about Andrea leaving us. We all totally enjoyed our “posie” shopping with her after Strawberry Breakfast. ❤️
So sorry to hear of Andrea’s passing.  Blessings to her hubby and kids, and family members!
I am so shocked to see this terrible news. Deepest condolences to Matt, Brad & Alex.
