When I was around 10, Dr. Hassan took us all out on the boat for tubing, one of my favorite memories of summer at “the lake house.” I always felt like it was my home too, because of how he treated everyone like family.

Reluctant to get in the water, he encouraged me to try it. He told me if I want the boat to go slower to give him a thumbs-down, and a thumbs-up for faster. To this day, the way I picture him is on the boat in his life vest, one hand on the steering wheel and the other with a thumbs-up, with his encouraging, sweet, self-defining smile.
