We are saddened to announce the passing of William "Skip" Irving White, who left us on October 27, 2024. Born on September 11, 1943, William touched many lives with his kindness and spirit.

He was born in Buffalo, NY in 1943 to Katherine Wilson and Edward P. White. William attended Shady Side Academy in Pittsburgh PA. He then went on to Harvard for his A.B. cum laude and Cornell for his Ph.D.

William is survived by his wife, Evelyn White, his daughter, Faustina Vaughn (Forest Vaughn), his son, Edward White (Angela White), his sister, Kaffie White, his brothers, David and Tim White, five grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and a large extended family from Ghana including brother-in-law Laurence Ofei and sister-in-law Regina Solenthaler. His love for his family was boundless and he leaves a legacy of familial love.

William was a dedicated loving husband, father, and friend. Traveler of the world and speaker of many languages. He met his wife in Cape Coast Ghana during the Peace Corps and married soon after back in the states. His love for reading, inspired writing and publishing a few books. He loved to spend time outdoors gardening, jogging and even hiking the steep steps of Machu Picchu Peru.

Professionally, William made significant contributions while working at Miles Laboratories from 1975. His dedication was evident in his work ethic and the respect he held amongst his peers. His participation in the Peace Corps in 1965 sparked his lifelong commitment to service and community development. He was also a proud member of the NAACP, Toastmasters International, and the National Urban League.

William's spirit of love, generosity, and service continues to inspire us. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were privileged to know him.

A Celebration of Life will be held for William on December 14, 2024, at 11AM at Catalyst Ranch, 656 W Randolph Suite 5E, Chicago IL and will be livestreamed. As we honor his memory, we invite you to join us and share your stories of William.
