Bill's favorite place in the world (his happy place, if you will) was his family's cottage on Walloon Lake, Michigan. His great-grandfather built it in 1902 and he hasn't missed a summer on Walloon in over 50 years! In his youth, he enjoyed slalom skiing on the lake, rowing in the family's old rowboat, and sailing with his father. More recently, he enjoyed reading the morning newspaper on the front porch, puttering in his garden, grilling for family and neighbors, and watching the nightly sunsets (which his great niece, Sophia, dubbed "Sunsets with Bill").

Bill worked hard to help preserve and protect as much of the original beauty and nature of the lake as possible over the course of his life. Under Bill's guidance, the Barringer and Shifrin families donated "Bois LeDuc" to the Walloon Lake Association and Conservancy (WLAC). This land behind their cottages is now part of the Wildwood Harbor Preserve, and will help protect the lake for generations to come.

The family will host a celebration of Bill's life at the family cottage this summer.
