Bill's obituary
William “Bill” Robert Dalsimer, cherished son of Dorothy Williams and Philip Thor (“P.T.”) Dalsimer, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2026 at the age of 85. Born on March 25, 1940, in Port Washington, New York, Bill lived a generous life defined by service, curiosity, and deep affection for the people and places he loved.
A 1962 graduate of Middlebury College, Bill went on to serve in the United States Peace Corps from 1962 to 1964 in Côte d'Ivoire, West Africa—an experience that shaped his lifelong commitment to community, understanding, and global engagement.
In 1968, Bill earned his law degree from New York University School of Law and devoted his legal career to advocacy and public service. He worked as a public defender with Mobilization for Youth and served as counsel for the DC37 and 32BJ Service Employees International Union benefit plans. Throughout his career, he fought for fairness, dignity, and essential protections for children and working people.
Bill was a longtime resident of both New York City and Southampton, New York, and, for the last decade, of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. An active member of the South Fork and San Miguel Unitarian congregations, he embodied the values of compassion and service. He lived his life grounded in deep commitments to community, friends, and family.
He had an outgoing, playful spirit and a love of adventure. Bill was an avid traveler and reader who delighted in discovering new places, cultures, and ideas. At home, he was a wonderful cook who found joy in preparing meals for the people he loved. Some of his happiest moments were spent sailing and being near the sea, where he felt most at peace.
Bill leaves behind his three children, Philip, Amy, and Sarah; his six beloved grandchildren, Cory, Lily, Mia, Nathaniel, Ezra and Judah; his sister Nan; and his partner Janet. He will be profoundly missed and forever cherished for his kindness, humor, and the warmth he brought into the lives of all who knew him.
