Back in High School and College Ryan and I used to stay up late playing video games at their house in Amery. Usually around 8 or 9 in the evening hot pizza and cold pop would show up like manna from Heaven. And she would always ask if we needed anything else. Whenever I was over there Sue would always be busy making sure everyone had everything they needed. And when you talk with Sue you could tell that she genuinely cared about what you had to say and she was interested. I got to visit with her and Scott over Christmas and you could tell she wasn't feeling very good. But she made every effort to engage and be present and not make it about herself at all. I'm really going to miss her, and being around the rest of the Dodge family won't be the same...

Remembering cousin Susie fondly… the many family trips we took to Thorp, from the time we were very young until we had families of our own…stays at and visits to the Kobylarczyk farm…Susie’s visit to stay with us in North Riverside…the Kobylarczyk reunion in 1996. We will not forget her sweet smile and kind heart.

In the time I've had the honor to know Sue, I'll always remember her for her dedication to family and teaching, her well-loved zucchini bread, working in her garden, maintaining their land with Scott for folks to enjoy, connecting with nature, pouring into her grandchildren, making sure everyone was welcome, and the longest good-byes I can remember.
Sue was a woman who seemed to feel the most joy when you had joy. I think the story I want to share about Sue is not an event, but a remembrance of her gentle spirit, servant's heart, contentment, and encouragement of others. She was always interested in what you were doing and how you were doing. She would listen intently, ask questions, and—at times—correct my language. She knew the limits of her influence and would not press, even when you could tell she wanted to. In those conversations and throughout the time I knew her, she leaned on her faith and shared it with those around her.
We both grew up on a farm and could relate well to farm life and getting the work done that was required. A long day's work with our hands felt satisfying, I think that may have been part of what drove the size of the garden at the farmhouse in Osceola. We also connected over our shared love of nature, I remember her enjoying sitting in her stand and connecting with nature. While most of my time was trying to harvest the bounty of the forest, from what we shared in our conversations the times spent connecting with nature were recharging and brought a level of contentment, reflectiveness, and enjoyment for both of us.
I miss Sue, and will continue to, she left an indelible mark on all the people who had the honor to share time with her on this earth, including me.

Sue Dodge was practically my second mom for all of high school. My favorite memory among many, though, is the Polka she made happen at the Amery community golf clubhouse! She taught at least twenty teenagers how to “properly” polka dance and we bounced and laughed for hours! She was always gracious and kind. She will be missed.

Many thoughts from our early years together that will forever be cherished. We will keep Sue, you and your family in our prayers.
From Psalm 33: "Our soul is waiting for the Lord. The Lord is our help and our shield. In him do our hearts find joy. We trust in his holy name. May your love be upon us, O Lord, as we place all our hope in you."
