Sue's obituary

Sue Patterson passed away peacefully on November 22nd surrounded by family, music and love.

Sue  was born in Ishpeming Michigan in 1936 to Fay and Russell Jeffery. She graduated from Ishpeming High School and proceeded to obtain a Bachelor's degree from Central Michigan University where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha and a lifetime member of Delta Omicron, an honorary music sorority. While at Central, she was voted a member of “Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities. In 1968, Sue married the love of her life Willson “Pat” Patterson, who shared an appreciation for music. Together, they enjoyed ballroom dancing and singing in their church and community choirs.

Sue enjoyed a 39-year career as an elementary teacher, and was known for her love of nature, music and art. After retirement, Sue was able to explore her passion for sculpture, spending many hours in her art studio and community clay club, making wonderful ceramic pieces and scrapbooks that her family still cherish. Sue and Pat also volunteered for the Court Appointed Special Advocates and worked to help neglected and abused children in the Arizona Court system.

Sue’s upbeat demeanor and sense of humor will be missed by many, and her family and friends will take comfort in the loving memories of her.

Sue is survived by her daughters Kristen Akagi, Erin (Aaron) Culp, stepchildren Gayle (Jud) Cooley and Dean Patterson, five grandchildren Kiana, Keeley, Sydney, Rory and Sawyer, and niece Laura McMurtrie. She was preceded in death by her husband Willson Patterson, her sister Mona Fairbanks, her nephew Stephen Fairbanks Jr. and her parents.
