I was so saddened to hear of Steve's passing.  My heartfelt condolences to Steve's family and friends, both human and nonhuman.  Steve modeled humanity in action in his lifework to advance fundamental legal rights for nonhuman animals. Steve's brilliant advocacy, passion and compassion inspired so many, including myself, to follow the path of advocacy for the dignity and well being of all nonhuman animals. Steve, you will be deeply missed. May your memory be the light that we carry to continue what you started.  Rest In Peace, dear Steve, beautiful human.

Steve Wise stood in my eyes as the advocate for a healthy world future.

Our paths crossed a few times over the course of 30 years. I held my breath as  I heard word about  him pleading for personhood for animals, hoping he would succeed and create a domino effect where all animals had the right to live their lives unencumbered by humans. It saddens me that he ran out of time. Rest in Peace Steve Wise. You are cherished for what you achieved and upon your shoulders you have carried the seeds of animal Justice and equality.

Your humbled friend, Steve Baer.

I've been fortunate to meet Steve at animal conferences over the years and to read his books and interview his staff on my In Tune to Nature radio show. He is such an innovative legal mind, and I'm so pleased he created the Nonhuman Rights Project and hired such sharp people to get nonhuman animals out of imprisonment and to get us humans to think of other animals as deserving of freedom. He made a HUGE impact and will continue to do so!
My sincere thanks for your important work & kindness through the years. God bless you.
Steve paved the way for others to walk on......and bring the Nonhuman animals along. Thanks, Steve!
He was a true hero. A real loss for animals and people who care about them. His legacy will always live on. Deepest condolences to his loved ones. 🌺

I was so sorry to hear about Steven's passing. He blazed a path and fought the good fight to foster human understanding of nonhuman lives so deserving of our compassion, good will … and our help.

Such a sad loss and generous legacy.

It is difficult today to touch people’s hearts, and it is even more difficult to inspire lasting change in them. But Steve managed to do just that with his unique combination of grit, compassion, charm, and intelligence. He changed the course of my life when I first heard him talk about the groundbreaking work of the Nonhuman Rights Project in Basel more than a decade ago, and I had the unforgettable experience of sitting next to him at dinner. Steve became a stalwart supporter of our animal rights law work in Cambridge, and it is safe to say our Centre would not exist without him. Steve’s passing is a tragic loss, but his life is better proof than any other that change, however hard it may seem, is not beyond our grasp. I will miss him dearly.

Is a huge loss for mankind and for beings that do not have voice

Rest in peace!

many people and animals have a lot to thanks for your life and your challenges you succeeded

I was so sorry to hear about Steven's passing. He was such an inspiration for many of us. Sending my heartfelt condolences to his family and beloved friends.
I was the judge on the Hercules and Leo case in New York County Supreme.  It was an honor to have him appear in my courtroom. May his memory live on and his important work continue.  With sincere condolences, Judge Barbara Jaffe (ret.)
My heartfelt condolences go out to Steven’s family, friends, loved ones, and all who knew him. His dedication to the Nonhuman Rights Project profoundly shaped my understanding of animal protection law. Steven's words, 'Some nonhuman animals I love. Some I like. And some scare the hell out of me. But I would fight for the interests of them all,' will continue to inspire future advocates. His legacy will live on, deeply missed for his remarkable contributions to animal protection and relentless pursuit of a more compassionate world. 🤍
So saddened to hear this. What a GREAT MAN. A true visionary. We must fight harder than ever before to continue the essential work that Steve had the humanity to begin. We must absolutely resolve to join together tighter than ever and move forward what he stood for, initially against all odds, and often held up to ridicule in the press...I remember how he was mocked years ago, and even still now at times, when he first brought it legally  to everyone's attention the cruelties that we were condoning as a society against animals and how Steve forged ahead never giving up an inch to fight for what we all learned from him is possible and the only right thing. How all animals deserve the right he dedicated his life to fight for. A great sadness to have lost Steve but let's honor him by continuing and winning the rights for animals that he made his life's work.
Rest In Peace, Steve. Your work, love, and dedication live on. Sending love to your family.
Devastated to hear of Steven Wise's passing. A true hero for animals and someone to look to for inspiration in making the world a better place for all species! My sincere condolences!

Too many good folks are leaving us too soon.   Steven can definitely be counted in this number.  I'm so sorry for his loss to you and the nonhuman community he did so much for. Though I didn't know him personally, I feel great sadness at his passing.

I am so sorry to hear of Steven Wise's passing. He was a personal hero, introducing my post-graduate self to the movement with his book Rattling the Cage, and an incredible, path blazing, visionary champion for nonhuman rights. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on for so many beings and in the work of the Nonhuman Rights Project. Rest in love and thank you, Mr. Wise.
Steve's hyperperceptive vision and relentless advocacy advanced the cause of animal rights by decades. His life is an inspiration and model for everybody trying to make the world a better place.
We are all responsible for our individual actions in this world even when we have no control over others.  Mr  Wise had an impact that defied this.  Thank you for this.  I am one person among billions, and I will continue to do the small local things I have always done to leave a positive wake somewhere down the line like he did, in a much bigger way. Thank you for the big wake you left in the world, Mr. Wise.
