Background
Shirley Cates was a Miami Dade College retiree and a long time supporter of theater arts. During her healthy years she attended every play produced and staged by the theater program at the North Campus, often accompanied by her granddaughter, Elena. At the end of each play they would stay late so the budding actors could sign their playbills. Shirley would love to know that in some small way the theater program and the students it serves were supported in her honor.
