Shannon's obituary
Shannon Marie Vits
July 14, 1999 - December 29, 2023
It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Shannon Vits, who left us far too soon on Friday, December 29, 2023. She was 24 years old.
Shannon Vits was born on July 14, 1999, to Cindy Ann O’Grady and Brian Louis Vits. She brought immense joy and happiness to their and the lives of her family and friends. Shannon was raised in Littleton, Colorado where she attended Ute Meadows Elementary, Deer Creek Middle School, and Chatfield Senior High School. She was a dedicated ballerina and soccer player in her younger years, then transitioned to Poms and Dance in High School. She was an excellent and diligent student who went on to attend Stonybrook University in Long Island, NY, her first two years of college then transferred to Metropolitan State University of Denver where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. She was currently a student at Denver School of Nursing and was scheduled to graduate in March of 2024.
Tragically, Shannon Vits departed this world unexpectedly, leaving an indescribable void for her family and friends. A beautiful woman, she instantly lit up any room she entered. Shannon loved to laugh, play games, dance, sing, travel, go on adventures, and watch movies, with Harry Potter movies being her favorite. Diagnosed with a rare strain of Ovarian Cancer at 15, she displayed enormous courage and perseverance in beating the disease, only to have it return at the age of 18. She once again overcame her illness and aimed to spend her life helping others by becoming a nurse. Shannon intended on specializing in Emergency Room nursing or Flight for Life upon graduation. She aspired to practice nursing in Ireland.
Shannon Vits will be deeply missed by her grieving parents, Cindy Ann O’Grady and Brian Louis Vits, her brother, Brian Michael Vits, her Stepbrothers Ben and Ryan Dicker, and a loving circle of friends and family. Shannon and her mother, Cindy, shared a unique bond that was admired by all as they were each other’s best friends. Her father, Brian, adored her spirit and they loved sharing adventures together. Her brother, Brian, and her were in-separable from the day she was born, attending all the same pre-collegiate schools, and creating memories from childhood to adulthood with one another that will last a lifetime, including partaking in a good Margarita and sharing stories together.
A funeral to honor Shannon’s life will be held on Monday, January 15, 2024, at Fairmont Funeral Home 430 S Quebec St. in Denver, Colorado, starting at 1pm. Friends and family are invited to attend and share memories of this remarkable and amazing young woman.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Live by Living Foundation –an organization that connects cancer survivors with nature and one another.
The family appreciates the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time, but requests privacy while grieving this unimaginable loss. We encourage you to share condolences and memories on this memorial website.
As we say our final goodbyes, let us remember Shannon Vits for what she was - a beautiful, gentle, kind, and caring young woman who lived life to the fullest and always saw the best in people. She was a shining light that will continue to touch the lives of all that knew and loved her. Her generous spirit, love and compassion will be missed by all.
May her soul rest in eternal peace.
