Sandra's obituary
Sandra Kaye Burton
(August 03, 1963 – January 25, 2026)
Sandra Kaye Burton, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2026, at the age of 62, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Sandra devoted many years to being a homemaker and caring for her children before bringing the same diligence, compassion, and strong sense of responsibility into the workforce, where she served in a variety of trusted roles across different fields, including as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
She was a woman of deep kindness, quiet strength, and remarkable insight. Those who knew her best will remember her gentle humor, her creativity, and the thoughtful way she cared for others. Beneath her humble nature was a sharp and perceptive mind. She had a rare ability to understand people, situations, and life’s unfolding events with clarity, often seeing patterns and truths others missed, while always leading with compassion.
Her love for her family was unwavering. She gave support without judgment, guidance without pressure, and love without condition. Even during seasons when life grew busy or distance crept in, she was quietly cheering her loved ones on, holding them in her heart, and wishing them protection and strength.
She offered wisdom, encouragement, and steady presence during difficult times, showing again and again that she was always quietly “on the team” of the people she loved. Those close to her often said she had a gift for knowing exactly what to say. Her handwritten cards and notes, penned in beautiful script, brought comfort, reassurance, and joy. She had an eye for design and a talent for creating thoughtful arrangements and welcoming spaces. In countless small and gentle ways, she made others feel better about themselves. In this way, she was not only someone who gave gifts - she truly was a gift in the lives of those who knew her.
She faced her health challenges with grace and resilience, thinking more about the comfort of others than herself. Though she often presented a soft and gentle presence, she was deeply strong and met even life’s hardest moments with quiet determination.
Sandra had a curious mind and a love for stories that blended heart, humor, and mystery. She enjoyed lighthearted comedies like Keeping Up Appearances, touching films such as While You Were Sleeping and P.S. I Love You, and cozy mystery series including Rosemary & Thyme and Death in Paradise. She appreciated clever, character-driven storytelling in shows like Psych and House, and often spoke about the importance of treating the person, not just the problem - a belief that reflected how she cared for others in real life. She was naturally inquisitive and frequently researched medical and other subjects on her own, especially when it meant helping someone pursue better outcomes or supporting causes that truly mattered. In quieter moments, she found simple joy in staying organized, solving word search puzzles, and creating calm, comforting spaces around her.
Though she carried herself with humility, she was a steady, guiding presence in the lives of those she loved - like a quiet star whose light was constant, even when not fully seen. Her passing leaves a space that cannot be filled, but her love and influence remain, woven into the lives and hearts of her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Stacey Ann Pegram; her sons, Daniel Matthew Pegram and Timothy Dean Pegram; and her grandchildren, Austin Thomas Broderson and Theodore Dawson McDaniel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Thomas Burton and Hester Lavada (Hodges) Burton, and several beloved family members.
Her family will remember her as intelligent, creative, deeply selfless, endearing, and full of heart - a woman who gave far more than she ever asked for and whose love will continue to shape the lives of those she touched.
In keeping with her wishes, her family will gather for a private remembrance at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial contributions in Sandra’s memory for the planting of flowers, pollinators, or trees, reflecting her love of beauty, thoughtfulness, and design. One option is available at: https://shop.alivingtribute.o…
