Dr. Sameer Dixit, a distinguished sports medicine specialist, esteemed educator, cherished husband of Rachana Khandelwal Dixit, devoted father of Shiv (age 8) and Siya (age 6) Dixit, beloved son of Pradeep and Usha Dixit, adored son-in-law of Kisan and Veena Khandelwal, and brother of Sandeep Dixit, passed away on December 29, 2025. He was 52 years young.
A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Dr. Dixit dedicated himself to the care of athletes and the advancement of sports medicine. As a fellowship-trained, double board-certified specialist, he brought all of his expertise and heart to his practice.
Dr. Dixit graduated with honors with a degree in bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania. He felt called to medicine, earning his medical degree from the University of Maryland in Baltimore. He completed his internal medicine residency at the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University and a sports medicine fellowship at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.
Dr. Dixit is lauded for his excellence and leadership at the highest levels of collegiate and professional sports. Early in his career, he served as the head team physician at the University of California, Berkeley, becoming one of the youngest head team physicians of a major collegiate program in the country. He later returned to his hometown to join the faculty at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he was instrumental in developing the institution's primary care sports medicine program. Most recently, Dr. Dixit served on the faculty at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York. He was humbled to serve alongside world class colleagues and mentors and always wanted to do such affiliation justice.
Throughout his career, Dr. Dixit provided coverage for iconic teams, including the Baltimore Orioles, the New York Knicks, USA Lacrosse, and the New York Giants. He also had deep passion for the education and quality improvement of future sports medicine physicians, serving as the program director for the primary care sports medicine fellowship at HSS and on the Board of Directors for the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine.
Yet, for all his professional accolades, Sameer was defined by his simplicity and humility. He approached life with candor, kindness, and a clear vision, whether he was mapping out the future of a medical program or planning for his treasured family. He was a man without pretense, guided by a singular purpose: he was here to serve others throughout his life.
To his friends and family, Sameer was a constant source of support and affectionately known as "Mr. Fix It"— a testament to his willingness to solve any problem for the people he loved. He was a great friend, known for his sharp sense of humor, quick wit, and his ability to bring levity to any room.
Above all, Sameer was an extremely devoted father, husband, son, and friend. He cherished his parents and poured his heart into raising his own family. In his free time, he loved nothing more than being active and trying to keep up with his two young children. His legacy will live on through his family.
