Sally Schaldenbrand passed away peacefully at home in Macomb Michigan on April 06, 2024. Her loving daughters were with her around the clock during her final days.

Sally was born on October 15, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan to Ralph and Cordelia Schweizer.  She was especially close with her older brother Robert. Sally went to school at St. Mary's, a Catholic boarding school in Monroe Michigan, graduating in 1945. She made many friends there and had a reputation with the nuns – one she was quite proud of – for mischief and boldness. This attitude never changed, and her nickname "Sassy Sally" was known by all.

Sally was married to Walter (Wally) Schaldenbrand, the great love of her life. The two of them enjoyed vacationing around the Great Lakes region, taking long scenic drives and entertaining friends and family. Sally was always, until her final days, the life of every party. She had a spark that everyone who met her immediately noticed, and she could infuse any situation with fun and humor.

Sally spent her career as a secretary for Utica Community Schools, where she worked at the district administration office and was much beloved.

Wally passed away in 1993, at the young age of 62, just a few months after retirement. Sally loved him for the 31 years that she lived without him, but rose to the challenge of finding fun, meaning and happiness in her life as a widow. She stayed active, took jobs at Hallmark and the City of Armada and made new friends everywhere she went, even the grocery store.

Sally leaves behind many friends, so many that both her 90th and 95th birthday parties had to be held in large event spaces. She loved lunch dates, trips to the casinos to play the nickel slots, and chatting with her lady friends. She was always dressed stylishly, with a matching scarf and jewelry for every outfit.

No matter how many friends she had, family came first in Sally’s life. She was a loving mother to her three children, a fun and supportive grandmother to her five grandchildren, who sometimes called her Candy Grandma because she never showed up for a visit without sugary confections, and had seven great grandchildren who knew and loved her as Great Grandma Nana.

At home, Sally curated a beautiful and cozy house, filled with art and candles, decorated for every season, and surrounded herself with flowers. She loved to observe the birds, squirrels and rabbits in her backyard, watch football, tennis and old black-and-white movies, read mystery novels and eat sweets. Lots of sweets. She was famous for her adopted mantra of "Life is uncertain; eat dessert first".

Sally spent 96 and a half years turning mundane moments into special ones and spreading joy, humor, and a bit of sass to everyone around her.

Sally was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Walter Schaldenbrand, her brother, Robert Sullivan, and her son Edward Schaldenbrand.

She leaves behind her daughters Deborah Levites and Lynn Cadreau, sons-in-law Robert Levites and Terry Cadreau, grandchildren Kristina Harvey, Kevin Levites, Jeffrey Levites, Dustin Cadreau and Chad Cadreau, and great grandchildren Evan, James, Owen, Cordelia, Tobi and Miciah.

She will be greatly missed.
