My husband, Tom, and I first met Bob at dance at Chikaming over 30 years ago. We were immediately struck with Bob, his humbleness, his brilliance, his humor all captured in his all encompassing smile and laugh. Soon after, he married Sarah, and we two couples shared many treasured memories. My heart goes out to Sarah and all who have lost that wonderful man. In this world, at least!
Very sorry to hear of Bob's passing. He was a pleasure to have as a voice therapy patient and I always looked forward to our visits. Especially when he tried to sing me a song from Hamilton! Thank you for this lovely page to see some beautiful memories of a wonderful person.
We only just learned of Bob's passing. We send our deepest regrets along with our love and support to Sarah and the entire family. We will always remember the joy Bob gave the world---a life well lived full of love.  While we will not be able to attend the celebration of his life in person in April, we plan to attend via Zoom.

We meet Bob  48 years ago when we moved into the building and Bob was our, down the hall neighbor. He was president of the condo association for several terms. He was always kind and cared about doing the right thing. He was a gentleman. It was an honor to know Bob .

I met Bob at William Blair many years ago.  Although our business paths did not cross, I was always struck by his kindness and friendliness.  Years later I reconnected happily with him and Sarah at a mutual friend's home in Michigan - the same kind and warm person many years later.  Bob and Sarah are very special people whom I am fortunate to know.
I've known Bob since he married his second wife, Jane, my dad's first cousin. He was truly a wonderful and inspiring human being, and through him, we've been so fortunate to get to know Sarah. We have so many fond memories of Bob - and these remain, despite our loss.
I'll miss Bob's intelligence, patience, lust for life, and good humor.  He was a great guy and my memories of him will stay with me as long as I live.

So sorry to hear of Bob’s passing.  What a wonderful, inspiring, kind, thoughtful and caring man.

I worked with him as his assistant when he was Chairman at McDermott, Will & Emery.

  My condolences to his family,

Monica Lowery

Meeting Bob and Sarah at Le Bouchon for meals that transported us each back to Paris.  Bob and Sarah would easily slip into le Francais  and have a few words together and then the conversation (in English) would get going and the afternoon would pass.  Bob had the best stories - travels and adventures.  Gary and I miss his company.

We have so many fond memories of joyful times spent with Bob and Sarah in Lakeside, it’s impossible to recount them all. But after our family sold White Beeches back in 2018, visiting Bob and Sarah was one of the primary draws for us to return there.

Bob was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. He had boundless curiosity, a keen intellect, and a warm smile of welcome every time he saw an old friend. He was always expressing his delight to be together again. We are very grateful for the many times we were able to spend together.

We shall miss him very much.

We always enjoyed spending time with Bob and Sarah. We will miss Bob’s gentle demeanor and adventurous spirit. Even when the physical limitations of aging posed challenges, he remained strong in kindness, intellect, and wisdom. We hope he is back to climbing the tallest peaks and conversing with friends and family who left before him.

So sorry for Sarah your loss and Bob's children and other relatives. For the years I knew Bob he was always caring and attentive to what was going on in my life and others. I am greatful for knowing him  and will miss him.

Love

Ross

We met Bob about 15 yrs ago through his daughter, Jeanne (& her husband Ted Finch) in Boston, long after his retirement from a profession he had so successfully & skillfully created. We always sat in awe of his broad intellect, his kindness, his wry sense of humor, his wisdom, and his many fascinating stories. We shared dinners with him and Sarah, watched ART plays, and spent several pleasant evenings together.  He was always interested in us and our pursuits. I had the distinct honor of being a physician to him when he had a particularly puzzling illness that had baffled his Chicago physicians. I found the problem and he was successfully treated. Over the years, he would often ask my opinion on his medical issues.

We last spent time with Bob & Sarah when they came East to attend the funeral of his former wife, Julia, last year. He remained mentally sharp though his body was clearly failing him. He was obviously enjoying himself with his family: children, grandchildren and great grandchildren all around him.

We will always remember his perpetual smile, his optimism, and his love of life and family.
