Becky's obituary

Rebecca Lea Mackey (née Chaffin) was reunited with her loving husband of 49 years on October 14, 2021, less than 1 year since his passing on Oct. 31, 2020.

Becky was born on August 24, 1954, in Newark, OH to the late Wayne Chaffin and JoAnn Chaffin Martin. Due to her father's work as a band director, Becky's family moved from Newark to Sunbury, then Glenford, and eventually landed in Tallmadge, OH in 1961, where she attended grade school through high school. Becky transferred to Coventry High School during her senior year, where she graduated with the class of 1972. On August 26, 1972, Becky married the love of her life, Don Mackey. Together, they raised 3 daughters in Tallmadge, OH, Krysta Mackey Bratt, Aimee (Matthew) Judy, and Bethany Mackey. She truly enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters, Skyler, Teagan, and Abigail.

Becky was a licensed cosmetologist, valued employee with Bumpas Drug and Emporium (later having been commissioned to provide several stained-glass windows for the historic Tallmadge Circle site), Ohio Designer Craft and Canton Art Guild member, award-winning artist and art glass teacher, business owner (Glassworks by Rebecca, later known as Glass, Metal & Fire) for over 30 years, active band booster, and volunteer on the Women’s board to the Summit County Juvenile Court. Along with her husband, Don, she traveled for art shows around the country, in addition to creating custom art installations. Becky’s beautifully sculpted stained glassworks and jewelry can be found in homes and museums around the world. However, her favorite roles were homemaker, wife, momma, and Mimi.

During Becky’s 67 years of life, she preached peace and love, often whispering words of wisdom to just “Let It Be". Becky loved to entertain and adored her family and friends. She worked hard to make sure her daughters enjoyed life. Becky’s sense of humor, compassionate hippie soul, and hysterical dance moves were wildly renowned.

Becky is survived by her daughters, granddaughters, sisters, Deb Chaffin and Sallie (Pat) Benedict, nieces, nephews, and many good friends. In addition to her husband and parents, Becky was preceded in death by her brother, Bob Chaffin, and granddaughters, Elizabeth and Anne Marie.

A service will be held on November 11, 2021 at Tallmadge United Methodist Church on 207 N Monroe Rd. Calling hours 4:00 PM, 6:00 PM memorial.

The service will be live-streamed and the link will be provided here when available.

Memorial donations may be made in honor of Becky to Open M Ministries. www.openm.org/donate
