Paul's obituary

Paul PifkoDec 31, 1941 - Dec 22, 2024

Paul Henry Pifko ( הניך אהרן) was born on December 31, 1941 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, the only child of Larry and Elsie (nee Weinstein) Pifko.

After "successfully failing out of medical school," (his words), he made his way into the business world and became a successful partner at Fabricland, a chain of fabric stores across Canada. He married Esther Pifko and had three beautiful children, Daniel, Andrew, and Cara. He was married to his second wife, Rita, for nearly 22 years before he lost her to illness in 2010. He is survived by a stepdaughter, Holly, and is predeceased by a stepson, Mike, through his marriage to Rita. He was the beloved Zaida of Liberty, Leila, Sam, Gilad, Harris, Arabella, Brooks, and Nikki.

Paul was incredibly generous and kind, and brought love and laughter to everyone he met. There's no shortage of legendary ”Paul stories,” and everyone has their favorites. Right after the birth of Leila, we found Paul holding the newborn, a tiny speck of lox on her lower lip (and a sheepish grin on Paul's face).

He'd frequently accompany family on camping trips around California; you could always tell when Zaida was on those trips because every child in the camp was walking around with spoons stuck to their noses - a trick he taught them. In restaurants, he’d glance at the menu before making the rounds at every table, checking out what everyone was eating, chatting people up, and asking if they liked their order. We wouldn’t be surprised if the various restaurants in Canada and the US closed for three days of mourning in honour of his passing. They loved him!

Paul passed away December 22, 2024, after a long battle with Lewy body dementia.
