Naomi's obituary
Naomi E. Smith, 80, passed away peacefully at her home in Des Moines, Washington, on Friday, September 26, 2025.
Naomi was born at Providence Hospital in Seattle on May 31, 1945, to Charles and Isabelle Newell. She grew up in the Eastlake neighborhood of Seattle. As a teenager, she moved with her family to the Eastside and graduated from Sammamish High School.
She lived most of her life on the Kitsap Peninsula and in Tacoma. Naomi had a 40-plus-year career in banking and was known by her clients and coworkers for her dedication, kindness, wry sense of humor, and infectious laughter. Most recently, she worked as a loan officer in Silverdale. She took great pride in her work—especially as an educator for the Washington State First-Time Homebuyer Program, through which she guided countless homebuyers toward realizing their dream of owning a home.
Naomi enjoyed creative pursuits and was a talented artist in drawing, painting, and airbrushing. She also enjoyed arts and crafts including stained glass, beading, and crochet. An animal lover, she had many dogs and cats over the years—most recently her Havanese, Bebe.
She is survived by her children — Melvin Mesick, Elizabeth Rosback, Patrick Mesick, and Brendan Mesick — and by her children through marriage to Dennis Kemp — Carrie Kemp Bertoncini, Tracie Kemp, Jonelle Castro, and Neil Kemp — as well as her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, her sister Charlotte Donahue, and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
