Morris's obituary

Morris A. Blumberg, 56, of Playa del Rey, CA, passed away on February 25, 2026, after health complications following a recent heart procedure. (COD: undetermined)

Morris was born on July 29, 1969, to Ian D. Knopf and Sadie L. Gershbone (Blumberg) in Salisbury, Rhodesia. After graduating from Sandringham High School in 1987, he was drafted into the South African Defence Force (SADF) and served for three years. In 1992, he was invited to become a resident of the United States of America, where he eventually became a Set Lighting Technician in IATSE Local 728 for 27 years. In 2011, he became a father to Ashley (Ash) D. Blumberg. Morris was a force of nature, determined to be present for his son, even volunteering for the Long Beach Area Council Boy Scouts for five years. His family and closest friends meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He was unendingly proud of Ash and his goddaughter, Shelby McLain, and always tried his best to support them. Morris was also a passionate motorcycle rider and could often be found flying his kites and planes or rollerblading when he wasn’t at home. Anyone who knew Morris knew that he was the most loyal friend anyone could ask for. Morris was predeceased by his father, mother, stepfather, Abraham Blumberg, and sister, Ethne. He is survived by his son, Ash, and brother, Colin. There will be a celebration of life on March 27, 2026, at Del Rey Church, Playa del Rey, followed by a gathering at Dockweiler State Beach.
