Minnie's obituary
Minnie P. MacCartee passed away peacefully at her home on September 27, 2023, with family by her side. She was 88 years old and born in Thebes, IL to the late Herman and Essie Petitt. Minnie was preceded in death by her husband, Webster “Mac” MacCartee Sr., Webster G. MacCartee Jr. (son), and nine brothers and sisters. She is survived by two daughters, Joy Eyster of Jupiter, FL, Alice Brown (Jim) of Pensacola, FL, and son Matthew MacCartee (Becky) of Haddock, GA. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Christopher MacCartee, of Daphne, AL, Caleb MacCartee (Katie) of Pensacola, FL, Tyler MacCartee (Katy) Franklin, GA, Tara MacCartee of Mobile, AL, Tabitha MacCartee of Haddock, GA and two great grandchildren, Evie and Ezra MacCartee (Caleb and Katie).
In her early years, she was a 4-H leader who taught girls how to cook, sew, and can fruits and vegetables. She was an avid gardener and wildlife enthusiast. “Min” and her late husband “Mac” founded Minamac Wildflower Bog in Silverhill, Alabama. They discovered numerous rare and endangered wildflowers in their bog, thus earning local and national conservation recognition. Their preservation efforts were featured in local newspapers, Southern Living magazine and they were guests on the CBS Sunday Morning show with Charles Kuralt. Their greatest joy was sharing their love of nature with groups of school children and university students, garden clubs, tourists as well as professional artists, authors, photographers, and botanists.
“Miss Minnie” was blessed with the most loving caregivers that any family could ever have to care for their mother. We will always cherish the Christian kindness and joy Josephine Prim, Renee Noel, and Alison Chapell unselfishly gave during the last two years of her life. We greatly appreciate the dedication and compassionate care provided by Allie Battle and Kenya Williams of Aveanna Hospice of Fairhope, AL. Our sincere thank you to James Hughes of Hughes Home Care of Baldwin County, for providing homebound care services for our mother.
