In Matthew's Haven (a Poem)

In Matthew's Haven where love shines like a guiding light,We found peace from life's tempests and endless nights.Until Matthew hung up his belt and tools one last time. His hands, once worn from welding's fire, now clung to mine.

I felt so meek to wash those worker’s hands,

That had carried the weight of countless lands.

My tears washed him pure and clean,

So he can rest serene,

And I unwillingly let him pass by.

For he was sensitive to all love,

In love with 'keets and turtledoves ...

He was the warmth of everything to me,

He touched the stars and infinity.

In his life he was a wild riot.

In his death he was just quiet.

While his bridges connect the city.
