Mariano's obituary
Mariano Arturo Sandoval “Art”
8/20/1971-9/5/2025
2 Timothy 4:7-8 (NIV)
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.”
Art passed away at home after a long struggle with heart failure. He was born in Santa Ana, California, to Mariano Antonio Sandoval of Aguascalientes, Mexico, and Maria Norma Villa-Sandoval of Tijuana, Baja California. The eldest of four siblings—Marco, Miguel, and Myrna—Art carried a deep love for family throughout his life. His greatest joy was his daughter, Juliana, along with his cherished nieces and nephews. A devoted Angels fan, Art had a remarkable gift for humor that often made him the life of the party.
Adventurous at heart, Art eagerly took on the task of moving me to Michigan for medical residency in 2008. While there, he enjoyed his time working at “The Old Big House” UM Stadium, exploring the outdoors, and hiking. We returned to California in 2012, and less than a year later, we welcomed Juliana into our lives. Proud to call himself the “best daddy daycare,” Art embraced his role as a stay-at-home dad. He delighted in taking Juliana on treks in a hiking-ready buggy, teaching her to swim, planting fruit trees, and tending to the garden.
Together, we made countless memories—sledding in Big Bear, snorkeling and kayaking in Hawaii, traveling along Northern California’s coast, and spending time with family in San Diego and Lake Havasu. Art was always quick to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
I am thankful that he is now at peace in the presence of the Lord and look forward to God’s return.
Special thanks to all those in his life who extended a helping hand to him over the last few years. Your help will always be remembered.
Services will be announced next week.
