Mandira's obituary

Mandira Ghatak, age 74, of Montgomery Village, Maryland, passed away on Feb 8th, 2022, after her long battle with diabetes and then eventually, COVID-19.

Mandira was born on April 5th, 1947, to Debubala & Panchanan Kumar in Calcutta, India. After graduating from United Missionary School in 1965, she went on to study at the Gokhale College and graduated from there in 1967.

Years later, she met her life’s partner, Harish Ghatak, and they wed in 1969, going on to have two children, Oendrila and Indranil.

When Mandira had her first child, she decided to dedicate her life to being a fantastic and wonderful mother. She always supported her family through the various difficulties and challenges of life. She spent a significant time, working as a volunteer for the Lions Club of Calcutta. When she wasn’t filling her home with warmth and kindness, she could be found devoting her time to serve the less fortunate. We will miss her greatly.

Mandira was predeceased by her elder sister and brother. She is survived by her husband, two children and two grandchildren.

There will be a funeral service to be held on Saturday, Feb 12th @ 2:00 PM at the Going Home Cremation & Funeral Care's Woodbine location: 519 Mabe Dr., Woodbine, MD 21797. However, due to COVID-19 restrictions, we are required to keep this event private. For those who are interested, can view the ceremony via a Zoom link that will be sent out to all invitees separately.
